No lol bud you need a hps ballast

A metal halide ballast consits of a transformer and capacitor

A hps ballast consits of a transformer and capacitor & ignitor

at risk of dissent - I read a post by OT that said you can use a metal halide bulb with an hps ballast - it'll just run a bit brighter, and not last quite as long - just to further confuse things, some ballasts are made to do both, and their are special metal halides built for use with an hps ballast! :)
