I've attached a link to a timer similar to one i am curently using. At the moment its running 1 400watt. I would like to be able to plug 2 400 watt lights into this but I want to make sure its all right first.

http://www.intermatic.com/?action=subcat&sid=80

My timer is not the same as the link above. The specifications that are on the timer/switch are as follows:

Tork Time Switch 24 hour dial with omitting device

switch: spst

switch capacity: 40 amps

240v,AC

1 HP 120v,AC

timing motor: 120v-60C.AC

The timer/switch is plugged into a plug strip that includes a mini circuit breaker. The entire system will be on a 20 amp fuse (old wiring and new wiring in this house)

couldnt have gotten this far without UK420

2 x 400 watt lamps will need a switch contact rated for 12A at 120volts.

From the info on the site it would apear they derate the switch rating by a 1/3 for ballasts so 40A should be ok for upto 26A (or around 1700 w at 120v),

I AM WANTING TO USE A SECOND 400W HSP. I HAVE A RCD CIRCUIT BREAKER /SAFTY SWTCH (SEE POST) ON MY MAINS WHICH ARE INDEPENDANT FOR LIGHTING AN 240 V PLUG OUTLET (AUST STANDARD VOLTAGE).

I AM LOOKING TO PUT THE TWO LIGHTS ON SIMILTANEOUSLY (800 W)

Themadhippy SUGGEST ;

2 x 400 watt lamps will need a switch contact rated for 12A at 120volts.

MY QUESTION IS WOULD I REQUIRE A 240 VOLT BEING IN aUST RATHER THAN 120 V ?

APPRECIATE ADVCICE ?
