driving has been my life since 1962, i never was a drinker so i would do 1000 miles every week out in the country lanes and highways, the police would chase me sometimes but i'd lose them pretty easily, i would be down to wire on my tyres within 6 weeks. the second stretch of the M6 was open august 1963. the bank holiday was the first monday them days, i was on my way to blackpool and it was raining, i had a car infront of me middle lane doing about 40mph, i was doing over a ton and as i pulled into the outside lane my back tyre blew there was no crash barrier in the middle and i crossed into the oncoming traffic, i cant believe how cool i stayed the traffic was very light and i did my manouver with my left hand hold the 2 year old kid in the front, i managed get back onto my own side of the motorway all the time telling those in the car i could handle it and they would be fine, from me picking up a centre pole to dropping it was 250yds the police said so i skidded more, when i hit the fence girl in the back butted her boyfriend and his bruise was the only damage anyone suffered. the motorway had been open 3 days and mine was the second crash.

over the years i was banned 3 times for speeding dozen of offences endless endorsements.

i started driving november 1962 and on the 10th dec it snowed heavy for 2 hours and froze on top right through till april 63, i learned to drive skidding.

Wish i'd been around in them days, grandad.. I think i was born 30 years too late. Cars are my life, loved them since i was a kid but even if i hadn't had the (now expired) ban, I just couldn't and can't afford to run one. Been thinking about getting a 125cc bike but it's on four wheels where my heart rests. Maybe in a year or so i'll get myself an old Suzuki SJ413 or something like that, something easy to maintain, LPG friendly, cheap to insure, HIGHLY unlikely to get stolen or get me banned again etc.. If the bastardment don't make its tax cost too much.

Wish i'd been around in the days of peace and love :ninja:

my second car.austin A55 mine was white

used to have the van version of that grandad!

we dubbed it the austin gypsy coz all the travellers seems to have them , both the shockers on the front had gone so if you hit a bump you were still bouncing 100yds later.

moved onto fords after that though
