I agree with the above, no one’s forced. Idea of any business is to earn money init? And you can bet your bollocks it’ll sell out fast. Maybe I’m getting old though because I’d laugh at the idea of paying that to stand in a wet field. Listening to bands who probably wanna give cheesy political messages rather than just playing a tune. Laughed my arse off when I saw Metallica at some gig say “ put your hands up if you wanna save the world“ . Just thought how meaningless n sad. Just play some rock music. Suppose they’ve got old though.

Anyway on the other hand, I wonder what artists charge to perform? Know someone who used to put acid house raves on. He was toying with the idea of setting something up for all the old lot about his age. He said he was shocked how much things have changed n how much dj’s was asking for. Didn’t mind em wanting to be paid n earn a living. Said the prices though was a piss take n wondered where the for the love of music had gone.

Me and some pals put on a night locally a few times for all us older trance/house heads, as there was nothing locally that catered for that. Luckily, we all know our way around a set of turntables and didn't have to pay anyone haha

Glastonbury festivals limited on companies house is a interesting read.  I'm not expert on this but I read it as nice little some of £5.7m in the bank.  I might've got that very wrong. must be an accountant in here somewhere lol

People pay twice that on New Years eve to get into Nightclubs these days. Think VIP for some of the higher up venues go towards £1k now.

Considering that the folks that really do have to do the work to make the festival happen genuinely do have a higher cost at home and for materials, electricity etc etc on site nowadays I'd say the price jump is justified.... Somewhat at least.

I'd rather sit indoors with an overpriced takeaway and watch a movie myself. I can still taste the mud from the last time I was there.... :puke:

Believe it or not the artists take a large cut in pay to do Glastonbury. Apparently that was one of the reasons that the Stones didn't play there until later in their career....Point blank refused to be "ripped off". Even when they did play they put all sorts of restrictions in place - no live stream or anything on BBC and delayed set had certain tracks missing from what those who paid saw. Im no stones fan apart from a few tunes but I always admire those who say NO when everyone else meekly falls over and takes what they are "given".

A gig is a gig and if you are the headliner then it's your gear, your roadies, your set...everyone still needs paying and in that game min wage doesn't really come into it.

Also Im pretty sure the whole event company is a registered charity and receives the breaks that charity status affords.

BTW obviously this getting bands to play for less goes all the way down and some people play for free making a loss just for the exposure.

its the same for all the festivals ive watched greenman ticket prices creeping up, I wouldnt mind but the way they set up you are fleeced from the moment you walk in the gates £8 a pint or £12 for a meal £4 for water etc I think its only worth it if you look at the line up and see 10ish bands you are keen on seeing, train tickets too in the £100's it becomes an expensive weekend very fast. I think it is worth it for the right artists though regardless.

How much do you think a stage ,pa ,lighting ,video and gennys cost to hire in for the type of production like  glastonbury? The days of a few hippys turning up with a transit are over, your talking multiple artics filled with expensive technical equipment that requires  skilled crew to set up and operate. Now multiply that across several stages ,then theres the 100's of smaller stages .Dont forget  the 1001 other costs that are needed to comply with the licence conditions set by the local council. And all that before any muso has been paid. If its easy money why aint you  out there organising your own festivals

I'll go to glasto if I do paid work before/after but never would I pay 300+ to be herded like suffocating cattle in the naughty corner.

I've been 6 times, paid the first time (it was 170) and I thought it was pushing it then.  I live 20 mins away so always have local people looking for workers for one thing or another there..

For me I enjoy the socialising more than anything.. the music is usually fucking wank on any of the main stages so it's certainly not worth the money for a weekend in a field with terrible toilets lol

There's good weed from some of the crew parties before/after the festi though, it was always a treat :D

I quite enjoyed it the few times I went in the late 80's and early 90's , well I think I did

my memories are a bit hazy tbh

It must be a complete nightmare now with all the rich kids there because it's a social event to be seen at

The last Festival I went to was Reading in 1989 lol I think it was about 25 squids for the 3 days, from memory. Soap and Es everywhere :D Good times

340 I'd want a king size bed, a/c, complimentary full English breakfast ..........
