GSZZ
duckduckgo uses the bing algorithim via the bing API to get your search results. Which kinda explains why you're seeing microsoft links when you ping a search engine (what are you doing online thats got you this scared? ) The only difference between bing and duckduckgo is bing takes your search history, cookies and whatever else to build up a profile for you which they then use to sel to advertising companies (which is why you see personalised adverts on social media and search engines), where as duckduckgo doesn't.
Boojum
I have no idea what any of that means. I just know that if I use Firefox with noscript as my browser and search using duckduckgo I get no adverts when I browse, if I use Microsoft Edge as my browser and search with Bing I get sooooooo many fucking adverts I dunno fuck all about computers, I just hate adverts

iShouldCoCo
That means the webserver hosting duckduckgo is sat on an IP address from a block owned by Microsoft but... IPv4 is finite, so companies tend to hang on to their allocation these days. This doesn't necessarily mean that Duckduckgo is Microsoft though. They could just be renting the IP address from MS or the colo/webhosting facility is....
