Tis with great sadness that I inform you that Trent legend Jan Porter has died after a lengthy battle with the dreaded C :(

Jan made me my first trent big chuck rod when I was 18 years old :)

Rest in peace my friend. A true legend in the angling fraternity :)

i met him at a few tackle shows over the yrs, last time was about 6/8yrs back, he wasn't "the man in red" then though, he was well into his speci fishing, it was him that showed me how to tie a kd rig, he was a very nice fella who had time for everyone, sad, sad news.

rip jan! :(

Gutted to hear that. Man was legend and bloody good angler. I remember him in his Van Den Eynde hey day rocking the Eurotrash Porn star look like only he could.

You never blank in heaven, but i don't reckon Jan ever did down on earth. RIP.

He was a top bloke and a fantastic ambassador for angling :)

I spent many a happy times with him on the Trent and at Ferry Meadows and in his shop in the early days

It was him while we were travelling to a match at Ferry Meadows that suggested we needed to call at "The little thief" otherwise we would starve. It always made me chuckle and to this day we still call it "little thief" lol

He also got me my first pole and I still remember it. It was a Tricast Maestro :)
