The Times

21st May Tuesday 2002

Zac Foley, 31, the bass player with the band EMF, best known for the hit single Unbelievable, died from a cocktail of drink and drugs while celebrating the new year, an inquest was told.

The star, who had “every reason” to be optimistic about his future, “diced with death” by overdosing on heroin, crack cocaine, Ecstasy, barbituates and alcohol.

A friend he was staying with found his body on her bedroom floor after breaking down the front door of her flat in Camden, North London, on January 2.

Dr Stephen Chan, the St Pancras Coroner, said that Mr Foley’s death should serve as a warning to other young people not to gamble with their lives.

Verdict: misadventure.
