April Posted May 16, 2002 Share Posted May 16, 2002 Purple is the New Orange for carrots. The Carrot is to return to its roots and go on sale this summer in its original colour- Purple. Black, green and Red carrots were also grown in the past but they have been Orange in the West since the 16th. Century when Dutch breeders used a Yellow mutant seed to develope the Orange variety. Scientists have recently studied the health qualities of purple carrots and believe they give extra protection against various forms of Cancer and heart disease. (The Times 16/5/02.
