Fat Charlie
Been keeping an eye on the situation since the recent elections in the Netherlands. I've just found this on The Bulldog Coffeeshop site. ''Short overview of Facts; At the start of the year, the political parties VVD, PVV & CDA formed an anti coffeeshop government and slowly worked on destroying the industry. Before the summer the cabinet fell and a new cabinet formed by VVD & cannabis friendly PvdA was elected on the 12th of Sept. A solid backer of the “wietpas” and the mayor of Maastricht, Onno Hoes from VVD declared on national television before the elections that the “wietpas” experiment has failed, because it has created more problems than solving them. He advised Amsterdam not to implement the “wietpas”, as it will lead to an uncontrollable situation like in Maastricht. The VVD did not campaign against coffeeshop before the elections and the ministers Fred Teeven & Ivo Opstelten, of he ministery of “Veiligheid en Justitie” who implemented the wietpas have announced that it perhaps needs to be adapted to municipal levels instead of national. To know that the mayor of Amsterdam Eberhard van der Laan is from PvdA and not in favor of the “wietpas”, makes the outlook for the coffeeshops, economy and the safety in Amsterdam much better. The political situation towards cannabis is much more positive then at the start of the year and as each day passes it gets closer to being accepted.'' Sounds pretty hopeful to me! Sounds like the VVD are backpedaling a bit and individual districts may be given the choice of implementing the weedpass or not. Heres hoping!
moggggys
``With the Socialist Party (SP) holding a narrow lead in the opinion polls, cannabis campaigners hope that the wietpas can be scrapped before January 1 if Emile Roemer’s party leads the next government.`` odd , i read a report last month that gave the conservatives over 50% of the vote , given its already in place in the south im not going to be holding my breath on this ,,,,,,,portugal for next year then
Irrelevant
It seems likely that the PvdA , a rather liberal socialist party, will be leading our to be formed government. Still, everything is possible. If given the opportunity , I would go to California or Morocco instead.

Hiphip
Having just landed the official line from EVERY coffeeshop owner I asked was "There is NO weed pass in Amsterdam". BTW, those who recommend Grey Area need to get out more. De Graal, on Albert Cuypstraat is the one to seek out. All the best and Queen's day is next. Cheers
tico cervantes
Just got back and I can confirm the weed pass is not going to happen. And yes hiphip is right. The gray area was just as average as everywere else. De graal was the only place I've seen that sells oil. Not that I got any mind you so no idea if it's any good. Cheers tico. Ishmael
it was never a serious policy in the first place, it was a votecatching plan on the part of the right and it failed. The reason it wasn't practical is that unless you have total removal of all anti-cannabis law no-one in their right mind is going to add their name and address to a government list of weed users. It's fucking obvious isn't it? Edited November 11, 2012 by Ishmael
smoky2004
Great news on the tourist smoking ban. Over a year now since I last went to Amsterdam but Grey Area had some top smoke when I was there, I didn't even look at the menu, just asked the dealer to show me his selection and chose by smell and sight, there were a few mediocre looking strains in there which I passed on. Worst smoke I got in there was the 1 gram of Golden soles Moroccan hash but none of the Moroccan hash in Amsterdam lived up to my expectation, it all looked very nice and bubbled at the slightest touch of a flame but was all lacking in power.
