Lennon
Do these need to be soaked and cooked like hemp, tiger's etc etc ? Ive found a new stick mix receipe I wanna start making that involves the above, but Im fecked if I can find any info on the prep of them.Ive checked out the fishing forums and bait makers guides that state prep times for every partical/seed but Niger seeds are not on any of them so was thinking maybe there fine to use as they are. Any info would be great
Guest jiffa
never heard of them but i would of thought soak for 24hrs and half an hour boil would be called for
Lennon
never heard of them Niger SeedsThese contain 40% beneficial oils and 18% protein plus rich in omegas and carbonhydrates. A very attractive addition to any Base mix/Spodmix/Stickmix. The few sites Ive found that sell them, none of them mention they need to be prepared like the one above. Markymark
Niger seeds are not normally used for the nutritional value, more as something to help break up colours and to make a bait look that little bit different! Add a few grams to boilie mix and it does break up a flat texture and make the bait look a bit more interesting...... Would definatley soak them over night or otherwise they will probably float as soon as the stick mix breaks up but no need to boil them. The mix you have found probably has them purely for comestic reasons as there are a lot of ingredients that could be used instead that would have far better pulling power for Mr fish...... Lennon
Hey Marky Im gonna be putting them in a food processer and whizzing them to dust so to speak with some other bits and bobs would the Niger seeds still float then if I didnt soak them? Markymark
Put the seeds in the processor first, give them a blend and add a drop or two of fish oil or olive oil (depending on if it is a fishy or fruity mix) give them another blast with the processor and leave for a few minutes so the oil soaks in and then make up the rest of the mix..... The oil will add to the density which will make it less bouyant, it will probably suspend a few inches above the lake bed and some will still float up but this will add to the attraction......
