A FORMER championship darts player has been accused of running a drugs shop at his home.

Cardiff Crown Court heard how Anthony Ridler, 54, and his wife Susan, were in bed when drug squad officers smashed through their front door last December.

Amphetamine and cannabis were found inside.

Ridler admitted being in possession of the cannabis with intent to supply, but claims the 24 grammes of amphetamine discovered in his fridge and his bedroom were all for his own use.

Prosecutor John Warren said as well as the drugs, there were two sets of electronic scales and £350 cash.

Unemployed Ridler, who lives in the house at Jellicoe Close, Newport, with his wife and son, told police the money was a Christmas fund he had saved from his weekly benefits.

And the electronic scales were used to weigh out his drugs after he bought them, so that he could make sure he wasn’t being ripped off.

Mr Warren said: “The prosecution case is that this house was being used as a base or a shop for the supply of both types of drugs and Ridler was the shopkeeper.”
