Hi

Monday 1st September 2008

Two men have today been jailed after around £70,000 worth of cannabis was recovered in Blackley.

Long Nguyen, aged 23, of Have Lock Road, Birmingham and David Tran, aged 22, of Geach Street, Birmingham were both charged with production of cannabis and were sentenced to 21 months in prison each at Manchester Crown Court.

Police followed up a report from a member of the public that there was a cannabis factory inside the Lion Works, Old Market Street at about 8pm on Sunday, August 12 and found more than 1,500 cannabis plants.

Three men were arrested at the scene and were bailed while the drugs were sent off to be forensically examined.

Only two of the men answered bail and were charged with production of cannabis.

The third offender, Hoang Van Nguyen, aged 28, of Chippendale Street, London is now circulated as wanted in relation to this case.

PC Neil Saxon from the drugs unit in north Manchester said: "This was a significant recovery of cannabis that was clearly headed for the streets of Manchester. Some of the plants were mature and so this factory had clearly been in operation for quite a while.

"Once again our messages to look out for signs of cannabis farms are getting out there to the public who are so key to helping locate and shut down these farms."

"No you want the other my Nguyen."

At least we're not hearing report of small time growers getting blaster with long term jail sentences yet. Isn't the max 14 years or something now?
