As some of you know I practice growing at my freinds place. From cutting to harvest and I thought I would share what we have done with some 2' x 2' suspended ceiling flouros and a 400 hps. Both of us are learning together, well I am reading and posting and learning, then I teach him. Lets call him Paranoid Pal.
First one: Two stages of growth. From rooted cuttings to 14 inch high cuttings. We use 2 x 2' flouros for fresh unrooted cuttings above on right where the propagator base is (not switched on when used). We have another bay to the left for mothers. Changing that to MH soon.

A closer shot. See how the lights can be moved , side in and out.

And here is the end result, some AK. Reasonably pleased with the result. It is getting better with each grow. This is with just enough air circulation not to stress. Not enough for me but he has no choice. Noise is an issue with his situation but he is happy and that's the whole point.

Thanks Dave. It takes about 8 weeks under these flouros from cuttings to get to 14 inches, slow, yes but he has the room and they are quite healthy. One or two have a wee bit off stress signs on the stems and shade leaves but the room is not propally finished and has not got enough air coming in and out. That will be sorted soon.
We have noticed that when they get to about 16 inch they seem to motor putting on about an inch a day. You can't have them too tall because of the light penatration. Each 36w tube gives out 1200 lumens, that 4800 combined with built in white reflecting hood. Coundn't tell you how many PAR watts are available to the plants. Alot better than the standard flouros, we know because we where using separate 2 foot flouros bunched together. Price is alot cheaper as well, extra bonus and as you can see easy to mount and move up and down.
Me personally have bought a 250w MH for my (GR to be built) mothers and it will do for the 2 week old rooted cuttings before they are put into the Gr for budding. I will use one of these flouro units for the younger cuttings and seed starting.
That's enough rabbiting for know.

Thank you for all your postive comments but I must give half the praise to my friend whose GR it is. He just lets me do what I have learned off this site and then he does what he learns off me. This gives me a head start for when I start to grow, we both require it regarding the medi side so what's mine is his and vice-versa. The design was his idea but the flouro units where mine (remembered them from when I was in the electrical trade some years ago) and I helped build the veg area, he never uses a level, so I insisted I helped. LOL
Hemlock! In a damp basement. right underneath the lounge and where's the front door in the lounge so the noise is paramount. He uses alot off puter fans and small 83 cfm 240v fans in smooth waste pipe so no chance off the plants taking off. They have never shown signs of the lack of Co2. We keep the humidity down to 40 - 50% to compensate for the lack of fresh air coming in. Works well for him and yes nice smoke, strong smoke but we haven't quite got the taste right. Good trich formation. I think we need to let them dry out alot more before we harvest. Now that we have a good number to play at we can fine tune. We have got a WW and Haze mother in the making so things are looking up. I also purchased some of those GD seeds for the server appeal and gave him those to get started.
Majic! No probs mate you can do it. Just do your homework and read and read and then grow and read some more. Being a gardener realy helped me immensely to understand certain things and with the help from this fine crew here anything is possible.
If you have any more postable questions please feel free I am eager to share.

When grown right it has a pleasent tasting smoke (afghani smell and taste),fairly strong and not a hugh producer. I know someone else who grow it (thats where this AK mum came from) and takes it at 7 weeks but it is best taken between 8 and 9 weeks. Realy good for sleeping when taken at 9 weeks, serious couch spud feeling. At 7 weeks, well it tastes nice but the head stone doesn't last too long. My opinion is that it is to early. Serious Seeds recommends 71/2 to 9 weeks. I suppose it depends on your growing conditions and what light is used and what feed it gets.
