Hi All,

Just starting out, first grow. Not very well planned, but I started some seeds out in normal seed compost and peat pots and put them in the shed window. After about 10 days I put them under 2x30w growlux 'fish tank' tubes, after another 3 days I decided to do this properly and build a growroom. Started with a small area with a Envirogrow 250W. Immediately they started growing properly and a week later I've repotted them into Biobizz Allmix. Picture taken straight after repotting.

Can you give me a quick sanity check on how they are progressing please? I think they are too leggy - can I fix this? Bury the stems a little? I have a small fan in the room on for a couple of hours a day. It creates a very very gentle movement when it's on. Plenty of air. Temp between 78-85, normally around 82. Never thought I'd be praying for a cold summer! No nutes yet, understand I can get 4 weeks with Biobizz Allmix before I need to add any?

Thanks in advance.

dont worry man. some kind soul on ere just told me to top up the plantpots as i went along. but i wasnt really bothered tell the truth. if i get the space next time, i might consider growing em in tall, narrow pots, like a wizards hat, to let the roots go deep. put it down to experience dude, and next time give more space, or just top the pot like most others.

When you pot up into the next size pot just bury the stem so that the leaves are just above the compo

Right, let's see if I understand this - there's no issues adding more 'mix to the pots and burying the stems a little and then next time I re-pot bury the stems some more? This doesn't cause the stems to rot or anything?

Dont be to afraid of getting plenty of movement with the fan m8, its important to get the trunk and structure of the plant to fatten out at this stage otherwise you will end up with spindley sticks, can you take a picture and show a birds eye view of the plants then we can look at the leaves in abit more detail, there should be no problem adding alittle more dirt or hydroton pebbles, remember to keep the light as close as possible without burning em , gluck bro wink.gif

1/2 - Birds-eye view of typical plant. This is the one nearest in the room picture.

Edit: The yellow tips are on the first true leaves. Not happened since to any others leaves. Seed compost too rich, or does this just happen to first leave?

Right... I'll shuffle things tonight. More mix, more fan. Lower lights? The plants at the edge will suffer?

Hiya m8, looks to becoming along nicely, i noticed alittle discolouration on one of the lower leaves which if its not increasing should be no problem,
other than that m8 they look fine, the node spacing looks nice and tight so they arnt stretching for the light anymore try to maintain the distance between the light and the tops as they are now based on your pic, tbh it was a general thing i mentioned not that you look far out, an ideal way to find minimum distance is to take a temp reading at the very leading edge of the canopy if the temps are well within the guide lines (20 to 28 ) then you can afford to squeeze the light just alittle closer, when your taking the temp readings try to leave the guage in place for a good while to give an accurate measurement, lookin right where they should be anyway m8 yinyang.gif

Thanks RastaJedi, you've set my mind at ease somewhat. No point putting all this investment in and getting something wrong early on. I'll add a bit more mix to the pots, and then just watch for a few more weeks and then worry about how to prune and take cuttings. Right, extraction next...

Hello again only to glad to be of help m8, dont be too concerned with taking cuttings yet, what you need now is just simple observation, because your working fom seed and not cuttings you have to give the plants time to mature, the longer the better, you need about 5 or 6 nodes before you should have reasonable branch developement to do any topping, it should take around 6/7 weeks to get to this stage sometimes less, sometimes more, but for the time being relax buddy and just let em grow, more time spent now will give you much more scope and better results at the end of the day, and far more options regarding cuttings and finnishing hieghts in the future, alot of people i know can spend 3/4 months or more playin around from seed till starting flower, my seem like a long haul but its worth it in the long run, what light will you be using to flower them with ?
TokingTone
Not too sure of which light to use for flowering yet. I think the standard answer would be a 400w HPS, but a 250w might suit me better though? I really like this Envirogrow so might look at 2 x 250w Reds. Low temps + low cost, etc.

Getting the air out is my next immediate concern though. Planning on fitting an rvk and venting up through the loft and out under the eaves. Scary thought fitting that lot, point of no return sort of thing.

A 250W or maybe a 400W HPS will do you right for flowering - I'd really try and forget about flowering with fluoros though, IMHO - most ppl who go down that route only end up getting an HPS later anyway - after being disappointed, so you may as well just skip that step and just get an HPS to start with. thumbsup.gif

I,d go for a 600watt hps m8 it covers a meter square perfectly, if there going into 10 litre pots to finish your talking 9 plants topped out with 4/12 or more colas (thats per plant), the cost of running a 400 compared to a 600 is minimal but the benefit is far more substantial, generally there far more efficient to use when u compare bud wieght to units of electric used, more so if you opt for a digital ballast, which can be had for around £120 including bulb ballast and reflector, cheaper analog kit can be had for around £60, but cost more to run, get much hotter, noisier and lose efficiency over a period of a few years.
It may seem like your gonna be spending quiet alot of cash at first, but you got to look at the future and think of the potential of what you can grow in a square meter and how much money you will save instead of giving it to the dealer, having said all that m8 i havent got a clue on the size of your flowering room ? doh.gif
Rastajedi
i just read your other post m8 and realised your limited on space , a 400 watt digital looks like the best option to keep the heat down
