Achilles-sensi
Hey guys,

I'm just about to buy two packs of seeds (1 x Biddy Early - and - 1 x Speed Queen) from UK420-Store (which rocks BTW) smile.gif

I've read a lot of posts on UK420, as well as get info from various websites, books and videos* - but there are some questions that I can't seem to find definitive answers to...

They're numbered to help with answering:
  1. How essential is it to check the PH level of the ground/earth before planting out?
    - I've read that I should not even bother about PH outdoors - What are peoples opinions on this?

  2. I've heard mixed advice about potting-soil/compost for an outdoor grow - What are peoples opinions/advice on this?

  3. Should I start my seeds off in a 'starter pot' of soil, start them in the ground straight away or should I start/germinate them with paper towel?

Mucho gracias tongue.gif

I will be following this thread real close, so keep it in detail biggrin.gif I'm new and i to am wondering the same things
Achilles-sensi
Sure thing D-Wade.

I also recon it's better to have detailed info, at least that way, one isn't missing anything smile.gif

I would save them for next year fella, getting a little too late to be germing seeds for planting out now pinch.gif most people start around the end of March and now have well established plants. One option would be to have a go at some Lowryders which take around 60 days start to finish, not a bad option for a new grower wink.gif
D-Wade
What are Lowryders, are thay a different kind of seed?

Also i have read on here it is ok to grow till around October, before the winter kicks in. That gives 14 weeks, isnt this enough time? (but keep in mind i know nothing at all and everything is new to me biggrin.gif)

You could plant them out now and they would flower with nature but there would be less bud and the plant would be smaller. Most people start april/may and by now most peoples plants are two months old and firmily established. With the poor weather now the plants may not get a strong start to life so you could keep them on a window sill etc.

You can try planting and just buy more seeds for next year. You should learn something

Yer, I think I'm gona plant some anyway cause I'm not too fussed about yield.

One thing I've learned already is:
Not to let the first few months of the year fly by without notice! doh.gif biggrin.gif

Malana_Cream

I've had a very quick look into Lowryders/Lowriders, and I think I'm gona drop the Speed Queen for some Lowryders. DrCronic has some on order (http://www.drchronic.com/products.asp?recnumber=691).

Do either of you have any advice for both D-Wade and me, regarding my initial questions?

Plus, I don't know for sure if Lowryders are an Indica strain - any ideas?

Hi, im a first time grower too, already got a few sensi outdoor mix sorted out, but was also wondering if i could still get some lowryders going. I don't have any lighting, so they would have to be germed then grown on a windowsill till ready to plant out. Is it worth the effort or will they not grow quick enough and finish in time?? Any replies would be greatly appreciated. I would proabably go for these:

I'll be watching this post too. just bought some lowryder 2 seeds, i'm germing them tonight and hopefully will be planting them out by the weekend.
I've read lots about people growing the plants indoors until they get strong enough to transport outside.
I'm planning to move them outside as soon as they are an inch tall, maybe with some plastic bottles over them for a bit of added humidity and protection.
Will the plants be able to survive outside being so young?
Peace

Personally i think bottles are a waste of time.I had a few plants that just seemed to rot inside them and some almost fry. I'd give them 3 weeks underlight/windowsill let them establish a decent root mass, then establish there sex or sex them rofl.gif then plant them out.U could always dig your holes just now and sort out some vermin protection.

I'm also a beginner, however, I've read that...

...From seed to bud, Lowryders* normally take about 8-9 weeks indoors, and a little longer outdoors (maybe a-few-days/one-week more). They were specifically developed for rapid growth. Here's two quotes from some websites**...

QUOTE
"Lowryders altogether do away with the vegetative growth stage. In other words, it automatically begins flowering. As a result, it is the quickest, most compact, and most easily concealed plant available. Harvest: 2 months from sowing. An excellent smoke with high potency and amazing resin production. Lowryder is 100% stable and is hermaphrodite-free."

--------------------------------------------------------------------

"Lowryders can be planted up to early August."

Thanks a lot for the link and info on those Safari Mix seeds! You've helped me a lot with my decision smile.gif

I couldn't get your link to work - here's the page I found (incase anyone else wants to take a look as well):

uk420store.com > Seeds > Mandala Seeds > Safari Mix

Because of the cost of getting Lowryders and Biddy Early (total: £64.98), I've changed my original plan, and now I'm gona buy (possibly tomorrow):(total: £43.99)

Thanks for your advice! Especially the bit about doing a bit of work on the grow site, I think I'm gona try and do that in the next few days.

I was actually wondering about whether it's better to keep them inside for a while before taking them outside. I don't really know if I'm gona be able to do this though (due to living arrangement) sad.gif
D-Wade
I to am going to get the safari seeds, its my first grow and if anything does go wrong then its not that big of a deal considering the price biggrin.gif

Excellent point! Just what I was thinking.

Thanks dude!

Would you happen to know if Lowryders are an Indica strain?

###############################################

Saw this related thread (Lowryders grow) and thought some of the posts might be useful...

QUOTE('pete3867')
I would say the most important thing here is not to put em outside until they're about 12 inches tall ,or if you do perhaps you could put em under glass ,, I have some lr 2 seeds so I will watch with interest,, by the way I was at focus d.i.y store today and they had some potting shelf things with a clear plastic zip up jacket .... maybe they would be just the job

(Although I don't fully understand this because I read that LRs only grow to a maximum of 12 inches anyway!?)

-----------------------------------

QUOTE('martin_d')
Any tips on what I should feed them with?

QUOTE('Out2lunch')
From what I have read, (thus doing for my own LR 2's), is not to feed them but keep potting up when you see the roots at bottom of pot. When in final pot ie 3 weeks'ish before harvest you might need to feed them a bit of bloom/flowering nutes, but mine are looking very healthy on just the compost, (Im useing Biobiz all mix).

QUOTE('Fatmanbob')
Nothing, if your starting in a 10L+Large pot , they'll be finished ready before they need any extra feed.

Seeing as nobody else has yet I'll have a go at the questions.
1. The Ph range that our plants will grow in is fairly wide. Sure maybe better results may come from lots of buggering about with Ph testing kits and then adding this, that or the other by the lorry load until your Ph is just where you want it, but the effect will only be temporary at best as your patch gets leeched into by the surrounding area. Of course you can constantly monitor it but fuck man life's too short. The Ph is what it is. Everywhere around me is either chalk or heavy clay, fuck knows what the Phs are but the plants grow.
2. Personally I go to Homebase where there is almost always a deal giving 3 big (70-80 litre) bags of multipurpose compost for a tenner. Preferably one with lots of peat in it. When planting into the soil I try to get a new layer of compost around the roots, like potting on, in order to give the roots some familiar territory to grow into before they encounter real soil. If you're keeping 'em in pots remember that the plant is entirely dependant on you for nutrients as those in the compost are soon gone.
3. I go with the little starter pots. Paper towel germination requires the transporting and replanting of the plant when it is at its most delicate stage, and is I feel best avoided. Starting them in the soil gives them a much harsher environment to deal with, a slug could devour it in seconds. Little pots, moist but not waterlogged. They sometimes need a little help to shed the seed pod. No nutrients for at least 2 weeks, and then only 1/4 strength.
Good luck guys.

This late in the year lowryders, or better yet "Lowryders 2" is your only hope of a harvest. Never grown them myself but a friend had 1 that when fully grown, harvested, dried and cured weighed in at exactly 4 measly grams Was it worth the effort? Was it bollocks!
