Hi Fellows,
I have thanks to the DIY input from bart made myself an accoustic fan box all-in so far for about £20. I used 2 x 2ft HD MDF the same as the wood found in the back of speakers. The box is held together with those block into which you screw three screws and is lined inside with Kingspan 30mm done in two sheet sections. The fan is suspended from a single bolt with bungee and as a result i have managed to eliminate the resonance that these fans produce and into the bargin i have noticed a significant reduction in noise into the bargin.
My question is....?
I now wish to seal the box and will be using the same MDF as the shell and i was looking for any input as to what would be the best way to secure the front and back covers to the box? Should i use the same cabinet blocks as i have used to secure the walls? Or does anyone know of tension mount clamps so that i could seal the covers that way? ideally, i would like it so that the front and back could be removed without much hassle and into the bargin i need something that will give me a tight fit on all 4 sides of each cover? can you buy right angle timber joints so that i could close the covers that way? Sorry to all DIY experts but my DIY ended with woodwork when i was at school many moons ago!
Please, view pictures so as to give you ideas? Thanks in advance as always!

Could you not use four of the magnets that are used for kitchen cuboard doors to secure the back and front on? That way it would be very easy to remove them both
Just a thought

Hi Trippy!
It is a heavy son-of-a-gun and ideally im looking to seal the unit so as to prevent any escape of noise, i did think about magnets but they dont appear strong enough!?
Cheers Bud!

I know someone who used to hold a 3.5ft x 2.5ft pice of mdf with 4 or 6 of those magnets and it was heavy so im sure you can get some strong ones. Could you not fix a strip of something to the edge of the cover as to seal it much in the same way you would cut out light. Sorry for rambling just trying to help

No Worries Trippy!
Its ideas that im after and the bungee seems to me a better idea, i have notived that when i have the wooden cover on and pushed tight i hardly hear a thing other that a low woosh, without the box the woooosh was a lot louder. Do you know if you can get right angle timber pieces? It may sound like a studid question but i was thinking that this would be the ideal solution from my very lomoted experience and im scared of looking an idot by going into B&Q or whereever and saying have you any right angle wood pieces?

I'd run a threaded bar all the way thro the 4 corners and stick a few washers and wingnuts on em..

Hi Hipgnosis,
Yeah im liking the sound of that, it means i could tighten until airtight! Where would you buy 2ft and a bit steel posts with threads at the end?

They're threaded all the way down mate you're looking for steel threaded rod or steel studding..
B+Q might do it, if not any decent builders merchants should ave it in, you should be lookin at payin about a quid a metre plus 2 or 3 quid
for the washers n nuts..
