Can you come and build me one?

Hehe - sorry - that's not very helpful.. you are doing the exact same dimensions as my ideal box. I am tempted to buy a budbox type thing (well actually it will be a 'contra' deal) - but am still tempted to build...
WRT the door - yes - it would be best to make that reflective too.
Yields - well I grew 3 plants under 400w HPS with manual/passive hydro in a much smaller drobe and got 12 OZ from 3xBlack Domina...

Hi Phil,
I built a growbox very similar a few months ago, turned out better than expected. That frame part was the hardest, having no joinery skills i had to rely on hard as nails and screws, no reinforcements. Luckily the shell secured everything- i opted for a slide-door, a slighlty shorter panel that sits on the wooden frame in old drawer runners.
make the inside as reflective as possible.
My frame looked nowhere as solid as that mate.
Nice wood-work

dude don't use MDF, formaldahyde(spell) is used to make it, and can leak out slowly (aparantly) get plywood, its stronger and doesn't contain ( to my knowledge) nasty chemicals.
Looks pretty impresive tho, i think im going to be building something similar myself in a couple o months
best of luck

i'm sure i read somewhere that Ot1 mentioned not to use chipboard either cos of the chemicals used to glue it together.......ply seems best,
i'm using thermal insulation board.....plasterboard with poltstyrene on 1 side......seems ok

any suggesions as i want to crack on wit this build later 2 day ta

May 23 2007, 08:32 AM
I must admit to having used MDF alot myself.
I am sure that plywood now to uses either phenol or urea-formaldehyde as part of or all of it's bonding agent.
This is simply because of it's strength and moisture resitance.
They all now, as far as I am aware, have some form of formaldehyde emmisions
The real problem with working with any of these types of materials is the dust created when cutting and sanding.
MDF in particular, seems to produce an almost finer than talcum powder type dust. Probably due to it's man made fiberous nature.
Make sure whatever you use, it's cut either outside or in a well ventilated space, and ensure that you use a quality mask or better still a respirator.
I always use respirators with exchangeable filters. They are only about £8 or £9. Worth the investment I feel.
As well as having just started my own home grown, I am about to start a project making a Mame cabinet.
I was going to use MDF. I have decided to go with ply. For me it was an appropriate material that was easier to finish for this type of job.
Whatever you use, assuming you are not permanently encasing yourself in the stuff, it shouldn't be too problematic.

Hiya philcanaries

,
I would buy a pair of them rolling hangers to keep up your cooltube as they are well easy to adjust the height of the light and pretty cheap. I hated using metal chain so nosy

.
Great looking grow room dude puts mine to shame

keep up the good work.

Unless you're planning on erecting shelfs or leaning on the walls I'd just use whatever reflective sheeting you buy as 'walls', less building work/expense and it can be taken down much faster if needed.
Looking sweet so far bud.

Agreed. My own two tent frames are surrounded only by lightproof plastic sheeting and Diamond reflective inside.
By the way forgot to mention earlier, excellent build so far.

cheers 4 the reply CrashAndBurn, ive stuck with the mdf but the final peice of equipment i need i think is the intake fan , as funds are now at a low i was thinking of simply a cheap extractor fan to blow air in. as im living n spain the only worry 4 me is if the room gets to hot but temps in the room are only around min 24c and high 27c so thats ok. i figure if my rvk is suckin out and blowing through a widow and a low speed fan is blowin air in straight from the room with the window open i should b ok , any suggestions?

use what ever kind of wood you want to use. just get a climate controll so the climate doesnt effect the wood. line the bottem of the box with some waterproof materical and your good to go! i made a box out of partical board and its fine. ive never had problems with my plants. so for all those who say it cant, or shouldnt be done. It has!

cheers 'CrashAndBurn' , a grow diary is certainly gonna follow. at the moment ive 2 white widow that were planted 15/5 so there only 10 days old but im thinking of just usein them as mothers and get 2 other strains growing 3 plants from each strain totalin 9 plants with 6 plants grown straight from seed and remaining 3 from the white widow cuttings.trouble is the local grow shop on the island are waitin 4 new seed delivery so cant do nothin till monday

but good news is there gettin a few new strains ,1 called icecream, from a company i cant remember so i will be spoilt 4 choice im sure

any suggestions on high yeilding plants would be a bonus.the pics will be rollin in when theres more goin on but everythin is set and ready to go

the room's lookin the goods pal
Ive recently just built my own room with virtually the same dimensions except I'm only at 6ft high. It seems like a good size to play with but I could really do with another foot like you have. Im going for scrog next grow to keep the height down.
I made my room in 6 seperate panels so i just make a big box and screw it all together (I rent my house so its gotta be easy to pull down and move) I used masonite where you went mdf because its much lighter (3mm thick) plus the fact it comes already made with one flat white side to the sheet. Ive only attempted one grow in this room but both were boys so that was short lived
Im looking forward to seeing your room at its full potential to compare methods
