Full Version: Re-using Medium

Hey folks.

I want to reuse my permiculite or vermiculite or whatever it is, that puffed rock stuff.

It's got load of little scraps of roots from my last grow in, what's the deal?

Did I read about some stuff that neutralises the old roots, cannazyme? Something like that?

Is it worth the risk? Should I just use new puffed rock?

Cheers peeps smoke.gif

re use it ... its not being a tight arse rofl.gif

u could try cannazyme but i fond it done jack shitz for me.. left coco in a bucket with the stuff for 3 weeks and still never broke down 1 single root.

not only do u have the enviromental consideration.. u also have the getting rid of it.. council tip peeps must get a good old laugh at all the peeps dumping after grows.

if you realy want to use fresh tuff.. go and offer the old stuff to ur local garden plot peeps. they will thank u for it... coz they are realy tight arsed gits. if they ask tell them u grow chillies hydroponically coz u dont have a garden.

i've been using the same perlite substrate for over two years now. it gets a bit musty smelling if i leave it for a week or two between crops but the cannazym/sensizym seems to keep it sweet once i get going again. others who use the system disinfect the substrate between crops with peroxide or bleach (well rinsed) so it is an accepted way of growing.
there are systems where it is difficult to change the medium so something like this has to be done.

i also use mycorrhizal fungi in the first 3 weeks of the grow.
i also get root remnants left when using cannazym but i figure it's doing its job with the smaller stuff and just hasn't had time for the bigger lumps. pull all you can and let the zym do the rest.

you can get a good idea of your crop's health if you take a deep breath as you enter the growroom.
