Ive ordered a small growtent for my 1st grow (65cmx110cmx120cm) Its pretty small as it has to fit in a small space up in my attic. I was originally thinking of putting a 400w HPS lamp in there but ive been reading a few posts regarding the heat these HPS lamps produce and the last thing I want to do is burn the house down. What sort of lamp would you recommend for a small grow tent like this? Im just looking to grow 2 plants, 3 at the most, using hydroponic setup. Will this tent be big enough to safely grow a plant or two to produce some good bud? Any ideas or advice would be very much appreciated. Im keeping myself up at night worrying that im going to start a fire up there!!!

To be honest, a 400w lamp sounds like a hell of a lot of light for that sort of area. It's the height that i'm concerned about - cause once you have a hydro unit in there and you've hung your light - there won't be much left to grow a plant.

I would think you'd be better off with the Enviro light type setup.

I'm sure you'll get a few more suggestions.

You're supposed to keep a 400W HPS at least 30 cm above your plants at all times or it will burn them, which should tell you that they put out a lot of heat. I agree with Keye, you don't have the height for it.

thanx for the feedback, the grow tent arrived today so im going to have to get some sort of setup on the go. What sort of light would be suitable for this tent? 250 HPS be ok? Dont tell me this size tent isnt big enough to grow any sort of weed.....please.

I use a 250w and my tent is about 175ish cm high. There's a lot of room so i can ride out any stretch the plants throw at me.

At 120cm minus the pot/hydro setup, minus light hanging fixtures etc, you're going to need to do some bending and tying to keep everything in check.

I'd get a 250w and try it - if your first grow in this tent goes awry, you can always use the 250w for a later grow in a bigger area. Plus you can use your tent for mothers or clones or put a 125w enviro in their, for instance.

You have about 6ft2 space and a little under 50w/ft2 with a 250w light. So it should be able to produce some nice buds to be honest.

How's that grab you? I know it's hard to figure out everything on your first grow - especially these little but essential details. At some point, you're going to have to take the plunge and try it - that's the only way to do it. I don't know your surrounding area. You may, after all, get away with a 400w if you had great ventilation and a cool surround. I personally, would be wary of a 400w.

I've got 250hps in a small space not much bigger than yours and i find a small PC fan blowing over the bulb and then into extractor fan helps with temps.
