Hope someone out there can help me on this one.

Am I right in thinking that enviros are self-ballasted and will run properly when plugged straight in to the wall?
I have got reflector that has a connector to a ballast instead of an ordinary plug.

Is it as simple as replacing the connector with a plug, or is there some hidden safety feature I'm overlooking?????

Any help appreciated cos as soon as I get the answer, my first grow will begin!!!! yahoo.gif

Yep - envirolites have the ballast built into the base of the lamp, so you can just plug them straight in. You can buy an E40 lamp-holder and put a suitably-rated cable to a wall-plug and just plug it in and start growing! This might be your best bet if you don't want to go chopping ballasts up etc.

Thanks.

I don't have to do anything with the ballast though. The lead attached to the reflector has a kind of moulded connection designed to fit into a ballast. What I'm hoping to do is cut that off and attach a normal plug to it.
Does that sound ok???

You can do that, but what I use is a flat, 3 pin, 10A connector from B&Q, rather than a standard 13A.

That way there's less chance of destroying things (like lamps) by plugging them into the wrong supply, in a moment of absent-mindedness.

any standard 'kettle lead' will fit it yinyang.gif

edited to add:
why ruin it & cut it off
this way if u ever buy a proper light, your reflector will still be ok rofl.gif
