Full Version: How Much Space Between 2 Lights ?

I've got a flowering space of just over 6 X 3 and i'm using 2 HID's,one 600 HPS and a 400 MH.

Is their a rule of how far apart i should space the 2 reflectors ?

Light overlapping and all that.

They're basic reflectors BTW.

hi mate, i'm new to this myself doh.gif
i was told to allow 1 square meter per light per plant, so put each light 18inches in from each end!3feet each.
i hope i'm right, i'm sure someone will help if im wrong!
good luck. wink1.gif

btw, i did mean 'mixed' lights as thats what i have! yinyang.gif

i work on 3.5 - 4 ft ye ph34r.gif

If you have 6ft in length then you go from the wall or side 2ft then light 2ft then light then its even wink1.gif

Thats the only way i would have thought and if the shades dont overlap dont worry about it.Its about spread and that way you maximize it wink1.gif

Thanks Guys.

Owd ?

Do you mean 2 ft from the side to the edge of the reflector ? or is that 2ft from side to the bulb itself ?

They're basic reflectors-15 inches wide at bottom of

I couldn't do it today,so i've got to get up early and sort it out.

Since I like to have both indica and sativa growing at any one time, I've settled on making my space two seperate 250 watt grows - 2 foot wide.
So far I've been fitting 5 plants in comfortably by messing about with the shades to get the right overlap.

As to mixed lamps, I would be tempted to simply switch the lamps or lamps / reflectors around at regular intervals.

This would be fairly painless in my case as the lamps and lamp/reflectors are on seperate spur brackets.
Spur shelving is a tweaker's delight smile.gif

Edit :-

Oops - misread the question as usual.

3 feet is a big spread fof one lamp - what sort of reflectors do you have ?

They're just basic reflectors out of stucco.

They've got a "V" in the middle.
I'm using some more stucco so the open ends have spigots on for extra cooling, both inlet and exhaust.
DIY stuff,donated from a fellow 420 'r wink.gif

The space is a bit higher than 50 watts per sq ft,and i remember how hot it got last summer.
I've got plenty of ventilation, and it's better now as i can choose to intake air from outside if i want.
Too cold this time of year, but i reckon it'll pay off when it gets hot.

I vent outside too,150 OUT 125 IN.

I'm on day 8 of 12/12 now and i've used just MH to control the stretch and kept temps closer together.
It's helped, but it's time to let 'em spread their wings tomorrow.

I'll put 'em 2 foot in like Owd said, looks right when you offer it up. wink.gif

thinking about it, that's exactly the same ratio as mine wink1.gif

1:2:1 in my case, 2:4:2 in yours.

You might want to look at Owd's parabolic reflector - pricey though unless you can bend steel....
deanbo
Is a parabolic any good then ?

Can i make them and still make a hole for the spigot's ?
I find these basic reflectors make a heat trap under the lamp,so i've always blown or sucked the hot air away.

Are parabolics better with heat ?

My mate Nige can get me some Ali.
I went out with him on his birthday on Saturday, and he can get me allsorts for nothing or a sheet of 8 X 4 for 20 odd quid-which is a steal really.
In fact if i asked him i know he'd knock me a couple up,but i can't take the risk of him catching onto what i want them for.

He's not a grass or owt,but if he knew then it's so easy for him to casually mention it,as poeple often do without thinking.
