the following clip is an interview for mnbc with DR Cladia Jensen of the university of southern california regarding the use of cannabis to treat ADD an ADHD.

I was diagniosed as a sufferer as a child and have never grown out of it as some kids do. i have self medicated since 1986 and have found that it has allowed me to cocemtrate, hold down a job and get a degree, prior to this i was pretty much out of control and constantly in trouble with the law as I could not control my condition.

I would welcome any legitimate research carried out in this area as my own evidence is just anecdotal but i am convinced it has worked for me

Heres one I found recently that seems appropriate here. It would be excellent to be able to grow very high CBD plants if this ones anywhere near the mark too.

Cannabidiol, a Cannabis sativa constituent, as an antipsychotic drug.

A high dose of delta9-tetrahydrocannabinol, the main Cannabis sativa (cannabis) component, induces anxiety and psychotic-like symptoms in healthy volunteers. These effects of delta9-tetrahydrocannabinol are significantly reduced by cannabidiol (CBD), a cannabis constituent which is devoid of the typical effects of the plant. This observation led us to suspect that CBD could have anxiolytic and/or antipsychotic actions. Studies in animal models and in healthy volunteers clearly suggest an anxiolytic-like effect of CBD. The antipsychotic-like properties of CBD have been investigated in animal models using behavioral and neurochemical techniques which suggested that CBD has a pharmacological profile similar to that of atypical antipsychotic drugs. The results of two studies on healthy volunteers using perception of binocular depth inversion and ketamine-induced psychotic symptoms supported the proposal of the antipsychotic-like properties of CBD. In addition, open case reports of schizophrenic patients treated with CBD and a preliminary report of a controlled clinical trial comparing CBD with an atypical antipsychotic drug have confirmed that this cannabinoid can be a safe and well-tolerated alternative treatment for schizophrenia. Future studies of CBD in other psychotic conditions such as bipolar disorder and comparative studies of its antipsychotic effects with those produced by clozapine in schizophrenic patients are clearly indicated.

I have never been diagnosed with anything infact once my parents were told I was faking dyslexia for the attention as a 6 year old child (???) but everything you say about being able to hold down a job stick out a degree and so forth since self prescribing the sweet green and even down to the point where since smoking it regularly I have kept out of trouble with the law. I have never truly trusted doctors and I believe we are all made differently and I know my method works but yes more research may equal more insight and the more we know the more we can all make our own minds up after all they do belong to us still. I had just wrote a MASSIVE passage about how I think our brains work and various reasons for various conditions but I think I was just rambling on with the excuse of all of us here (and Afroman), cos I was high !!
Really touched home with your story lad

Couldnt agree with you more Scribble. As a parent to a son undergoing assessment for adhd( he has already been diagnosed as having high functioning autism) I find any research with cannabis of interest. At the moment, my son is taking melatonin, to help with his sleep , and it seems to be working atm sorcerer.gif

It concerns me a lot that the "authorities to be" appear to have only one solution for helping adhd, and that is ritalin, Its one of my pet hates, that word evil.gif . Its beyond my comprehension how a doctor can advocate ritalin as being helpful to anyone, let alone a child

Anyway I digress. I would be most interested if someone could come up with a canna compound that would help my son, and ok, he is only 10, but i would far rather give him cannabis as an alternative to ritalin. thumbsup.gif thumbsup.gif

i was given ritalin for 4 months over winter for narcolepsy, and geez did i develop one hell of a fondness for it.

i was really glad when my prescription expired 2 weeks ago and im sure my nose is better off for it too. as dr house m.d. rightly said "ritalin - cocaine with a PG rating." lol.gif.

if you get benefit from cannabis, use that instead.
FD
aye, I used to bash ritalin a uni for essays and revising lol.gif

The problem here is that people like ourselves and others that support the use of cannabanoids don't have enough power to drive the market to make this option more available for medicinal purposes. Major pharmaceutical companies are the ones that already have the power and so we'll never reach that important stepping stone to get cannabis completely legal. We all know the facts and if you don't and you're here... you might just have taken a wrong turn on the internet highway, but the important thing to take away from this sort of research is that cannabis is not harmful but beneficial. People just make too much money off of having it be illegal.

Enough ranting and more appreciation of herb. I'm going to do an experiment tomorrow of my own and see if it indeed is harmful.

Hmm I've just stumbled across this thread, I know its quite dated already but I'm going to respond anyway. I've got a very sneaking suspicion that I suffer from ADHD even though I'm 26 and have never been diagnosed before. I recently had quite a hardcore argument with my stepdad which shook me up a lot. He gets frustrated with me sometimes, because I struggle to hold down jobs, am not particularly successful at developing and maintaining good relationships (both within my family and with friends, girlfriends, etc.). I've long suspected there was something sinister plaguing my life as every aspect seems affected and school in particular was a major uphill struggle. Now I'm looking forward to booking an appointment with a specialist to be properly diagnosed so I can know once and for all exactly what's wrong with me. Today I spent the equivalent of £20 on a book I bought called 'Attention Deficit Disorder: The Unfocused Mind in Children and Adults' by a guy called Thomas E. Brown of Yale University. Apparently between 7 - 10% of people have it so its quite likely my fears will turn out to be true. One thing I know for sure is that medicating with cannabis is not an option for me as I suffer from anxiety and mild depression. I was hoping Ritalin could be part of my arsenal to deal with this if/when I need treatment. Its not that bad is it? If taken in small amounts as part of a carefully monitored and regularly assessed prescription?
