Hey all,
I want to make my first ever batch (or couple of grams ) of hash. After having a read the two methods which appeal to me a dry sifting and IPA extraction. (Isopropyl Alcohol)

Dry sift appeals simply because it seems totally foolproof,and there is a Hobby Craft near by so I reckon that I`d be able to pick up some silk screen or similar from there but which size screen would be best to get hold of???

Ipa on the other hand appeals to me slightly more because from what I`ve read the end product is a lot purer (which is what I`m after) but I run the risk or ruining everything due to my inexperience

This is what I`ve got to work with,maybe 2-3oz of trim,mainly air bud,no big fan leaves,just the leaves that are part of the air bud and totally de stalked as best I could...

Personally I`m willing to take the risk of losing it all for the benefit of a better product
So this,after a read is how I expect it to go (the IPA extraction)...3/4 fill a jar with my trim,cover with IPA and shake vigorously for 2mins max as the THC dissolves more or less right away. Then filter the solution through a coffee filter into a pyrex dish,repeat until I`ve used all my trim.
Then place the pyrex dish into a pan of water that has been boiled and has been taken off the hob (no naked flames ) letting the ipa evapourate.
When there is not a lot of the solution left transferring it into a smaller cup or bowl and carry on with the evaporation process.
Once evaporation seems to be complete freezing whats left for 30 mins a time to purge ( ) and running a flame over it to check there is no crackles or pops (no cracks or pops no IPA apparently)

So how does this sound? Or should I go with the dry sift?!

I have a few questions...Could I not leave the IPA solution in my growroom to evaporate? My air is exchanged every 13 secs or so I think...Into my loft...Or am I likely to lose the roof off my flat
And also is the end product of this method oil? Is it not possible to make a solid substance? If not how would I store oil so it would not degrade?

Hi Burnage,
I'd most defo go for the hash and stuff the ipa extraction.

The hash will have the properties of the grass but the oil although strong loses the character of the buzz.

I know what your saying man,but this trim is dry as dry can be...Just de stalking it has caused a load of dust at the bottom of the bowl it`s in and I can see this getting through with the trichs...Unless I manage to get the right screen...Any recommendations?
Never done it myself before so I can`t go from previous experience on this one old chap

hey how ya doing got a quick question where do you buy ipa wouldnt mind trying it out myself another suggestion woulb be either to sieve some trichs and add it to the finnished oil or you could do the butane extraction to make honey oil not hard to do hope ive helped and not confused you peace

I can get ipa from my local hydro store ,apart from there I wouldn`t have a clue where to get it...
I read into butane extraction,I like the cafetiere idea of growbags but I thought I try something a little less likely to blow me up to start!

If u half what u got to work with ya could do one dry sift one IPA extraction

u then have some solid when u press the dry stuff and some oily stuff from the IPA and u learn how do both methods

and lastly u can then take some of each product and make a third part, 2/3 dry 1/3 oil for a solid more potent bit of jelly hash

Do you reckon there is enough trim to do both? Sounds plausible

cheers burnage will have to look around dr green thumb sounds like he's got the right idea, bubble bags work really well and you get a beutiful product but is a messy job with all the water etc and very time consuming, the butane method is all good but if your going to do it do it outside it relly takes two people to do it aswell goodluck either way man wish i had some nice trim to mess around with goo luck eace

Can`t afford bubblebags at the moment but they`re on my wish list

Hi Burnage, I've just done some IPA, wouldn't advise you evaporating it inside the house mate, not only can it be explosive in vapour form, also mildy anaesthetic, quite pleasant tho

I don't go for quite as long a wash either, I think after a minute or two you'll be dissolving all sorts of unwanted crud out of it. I tend to go for about 30/45 secs and then let it dry. Quick wash again if needed.

And Greenhead, as to where to get it from, well I get mine from a Chemical Supply Co. 5 litres of 99.something% for less than a tenner delivered...but I've got a contract with them...not hard to get hold of though.

You can buy it in most chemists. They WILL ask you what you want it for.

Be sure to say

'cleaning my printer heads / some computer parts'
'cleaning some records'
or similar

rather than

'I'm going to drink it'
'I'm going to pour it through my neighbour's letterbox then follow it with a blazing rag'
or 'I'm going to make some hash with it'

It's an ingenious test and I'm sure it's caught many a ne'er do-well out in the past.

So can anyone recommend what kind of screen to buy from Hobby Craft?
Looks like it`ll have to be dry sift,and I was so looking forward to playing the chemist

i think the IPA way , you want it to go amber/gold in colour,, green is too long.

I was wondering...... make the hash,, then with the stuff thats left afterwards make some oil (IPA),, maybe add it to the hash if its nice and smokable and make some jelly hash?
maybe I will have to wait till harvest to try that out and report back. (long wait)

as for the screens I dunno about silk screen but i read that the higher grade stuff is like 70 micron (200Ipi) and the still good quality but lesser grade is 107 micron (140Ipi) here: http://www.uk420.com/boards/index.php?showtopic=55197

if u do some searches on screen sizes u wont look stumped in the shop

think in the uk we sell them in sizes like 10xx 12xx and so on....

here nicked this from elsewhere hope its accurate seems about right

I googled silk screen supplier and found a few stores


Mesh Number 10XX - mesh opening 0.0056 in./141 microns, open area 36%, thread diameter 0.0038 in./95 microns, mesh count per inch is 110 x 106.

Mesh Number 12XX - mesh opening 0.0042 in./107 microns, open area 28%, thread diameter 0.0038 in./95 microns, mesh count per inch is 128 x 124.

Mesh Number 14XX - mesh opening 0.0040 in./100 microns, open area 30%, thread diameter 0.0033 in./83 microns, mesh count per inch is 138 x 138.

this was from a place called mr art in new york but there were many options good luck!!!


btw art shops will ask u what size screen and most em use the XX system

Hi Burnage, what can I say. I've given you the Health and Safety Line. But the stuff isn't that dangerous. I reckoned it wasn't going to be that explosive if I put a tray on the window sill, above a rad, open the window and put my oscillating fan blowing over it out of the window. It worked, and didn't blow me up But it is a risk.

Seriously tho, I did think about it, and reckoned that blowing the fumes out of the window into the back garden was safer than possibly having them concentrating in the loft.

Heavy Horses method is quite safe as that's what I used to do.As long as it's venting out of a window you can't get anywhere near the flashpoint but obviously no naked flames anyway.

Net curtains sound like an ok budget idea but the silkscreen printing stuff is best I think as that's what they use to make the bubble bags.

stuff in the bubble bags is better than silk screens

its polynytex medical grade nylon mesh not silk its tougher and cheaper than silk, just harder to get

proper name incase anyone searches for it polyethylene nytex

Well I`ve had an absolute nightmare trying to get hold of anything! Hobby Craft,my arse,don`t even know what silk screen is,directed me to some silk cushion covers
And as for the ipa,went to my local hydro store which is by far the biggest in the area and they can`t get it anymore 9but it`s still in the fecking catalogue),all to do with terrorism...My arse once again!

So what have I bought eh,because I refuse to be beaten! i`ve bought a pair of tights,well hold ups,thought they were tights (oooh matron)a wooden round frame and some coffee filters...
I actually have 6 small bottles of ipa but i`ve no idea how pure it is as I`ve had it years...

So what do you reckon? 50% ipa (if there`s enough) and 50% 15 denier sheer hold ups!

I had thought of making a small frame and using the tights however i had gotten a 10 denier instead
never got round to it due to me and mrs neo being in the hosp and now the shop has told me my bubblebags are in, so looks like i dont need to worry about that now, but i may give it a bash anyways see what the results like.

nice thread chaps was thinking of buying bubblebags for my soon to be finished grow but now im going to try the silk screen method only been into hash and oil forum once and read three threads this place rocks

Well before work last night I had a bash a making some sift hash with the tights,got a little piece from what I used (about a quarter of the trim) but the tights are shite so I threw what I had rubbed to make the hash into a jar with some ipa,shook for 30-35 secs then ran it through a coffee filter,and then again...Stuck it in a bowl floating inside a pan ofhot water and left for work.

Came home this morning to a bowl with yellow rings around it and still some ipa solution in the bottom so I`ve simmered it off and I`m left with this...

It`s like an amber treacle and it`s probably the stickiest thing I`ve ever come across,just one thing...How the hell do I get this onto a joint? It becomes a solid state after a matter of seconds...

There`s still quite a bit left on the bowl but god knows how I`m going to get it off...

The surface area is about the same as my thumb down to just below the knuckle (and I have a big thumb),enough for a joint you reckon?

Hi Burnage mate. (Bloody 'puters, this is my second attempt at a reply - after 30 mins of typing before )

Great results with the QWISO mate, spot on. Lovely colour - just how it should be. I replied in another thread the other day about a well made QWISO being both amber and solid at room temps.

It can be a bugger to handle eh? That is until you get your technique down pat. Different people like to store their ISO Oil (QWISO) in different ways, but me, I like to use wraps made from strong plastic - like cut up re-usable carrier bags. If you time the 'vap just right, you can scrape it up when it is still slightly runny easily with a stanley blade. It is still a bit runny because of the IPA in it. When scraped into the wrap I then freeze purge it, my prefered method as heating is both crude and wasteful. Just fold the wrap in half and bung it in the freezer for 20-30 mins until it is hard and frozen. Then take it out and open the wrap to let out vapours and bring back to room temps, again 20-30 mins. Repeat this another once or twice and the IPA will all be gone and the lump will be totally solid. You could just wait a week and the same thing will happen!

So now you'll have a lump of oil in the wrap, totally purged, ready for use as and when - just keep it nicely wrapped. When it comes to Schmoking.....again I have my prefered way of doing it. Check this link This link shows my method better than explaining it, but I basically use a knife to spread it in the middle of a joint so it burns nicely. It really is the best way of smoking oil that I've found, both QWISO and BHO.

Just another thing...about the hash making. Bubble bags are great, don't get me wrong, but a dry sift can be nicer. Both methods produce different resin in different forms and I currently prefer dry sifted. Plus dry sifted is loads easier to make jelly from, and now you have the oil you are one step away. Getting the right mesh size is always a bonus for purity (150 micron is a safe bet) so a decent silk screen is a luxury but you can improvise with great results. Tights are better than stockings as you've got the 'bum bit' . Plus net curtains look better without a sandy yellow dinner plate size stain!

Keep on keeping on mate, great results and you've still got 3/4 of your trim haven't you? BHO next up says I - follow a few safety precautions and you won't blow yourself up! I haven't yet. YET!

hey great thread here burnage, hopefully it'll be inspiration to others who are wary of taking on hashish for the 1st time. you picked 2 great methods, personally i too like QWISO but i do enjoy making ice hash too, according to the bushdoctors method here on uk420. anyways hope you enjoy it and remember each hash making experience is only a step towards hash making perfection at the top of the stairs.

Thanks for the words of encouragement mate,it means a lot coming from you,ye old seasoned pro And thanks for your persistance writing the post,happens to me all the time,normaly when I`m trying to type in the dark and I still don`t know how I manage to do it,and it`s always right at the end of the post as well!
I`m going to read up on BHO extraction,I`ve got the bug now ,I find it extremely interesting that so many different types,taste`s and strengths can be made from the same ingredient and I want to try them all. For the remaining trim I have left I think I`ll stick to the ipa method,maybe buy some tights (complete with arse patch ) and sift a bit,that way I can read up on other methods and get together all the bits n bobs I need so I`m not running round like a mad man when the time comes. Might look into getting a honey bee extractor as I`ve heard them mentioned a few times and I like the look of your cafetiere method also.

Purging sounds simple enough,I made a little last night but didn`t purge it but the next lot will be,just need to be patient

As for handling the stuff,I can tell that must come with expierience because I`m like a baby that feeds itself for the first time,the stuff gets everywhere! Tried to smear it into the spliff with a knife and ended up with most of the weed stuck to the knife...Ended up heating up the foil and dripping it in but practice makes perfect I guess

The last pic is exactly what is in the joint I`ve been smoking while I`ve been writing this post,all the oil,the hash I made which is a little dark because the tights I used to make it were shite (looks light after being finely chopped) and a couple of tight buds from the Power Plants all this came from.

And just in case anybody isn't doing this, I extract the last of the goodness from my evaporating bowl after I've scraped it, with skins.

Stick em, inside down all around your bowl, and then put the bowl in another bowl of boiling water, after about 5 mins I treat each skin like a little rag and gently wipe around the bowl. I'm always surprised just how much comes off, and you've got a nice little supply of pre-oiled skins

scrape it with a kitchen knife and then heat it.it'll run down the blade and you then wipe it on your baccy,ready sitting on the skins.

Add drop of ipa to the remainder and pour it off to evaporate.

As you can see it`s a little on the dark side due to plant matter so I`ve deemed it unsuitable for making jelly and it`s now wrapped in the cellophane from a cig packet and is wrapped tightly and under the heel of my foot in my shoe

I`ve kept the sifted trim and will be making the last of my QWISO tomorrow, (what exactly does QWISO mean?).
And if anyone can tell me where I can buy ipa from I`d be extremely grateful

hi mate,

QWISO = QUICK WASH ISO

means giving the material used a quick wash in water to remove some of the shit so the oil has less impurities

once it has dried the quick washed trim is then dried before being processed with the isopropyl

thats a basic explanation and I have never bothered when making iso, but check Grobag's threads, he makes excellent oil

i dont know if Joolz can get u it - he probably can- but advaned nutrients to a 4l container of 99% iso which does the job
