i was following you ok up until this point

you make it sound so easy but i still haven't a clue

what does the solid tube do?
Hi there ms kitty,
I'll make a solid tube with a similar size diameter to the central tube and they will be joined together. Then imagine a round, solid(not mesh) toplate with a hole in it so the tube can poke down into the carbon filter. The solid end of the tube which protrudes from the top of the unit, out of the top hole is then connected to a bit of ducting which is then connected to your fan.
I'll be starting on the tube and toplate after my rounds in the garden today and I'll get some more pics up.
I wanted to make the tube from the metal of an old paint can as its easy to cut and bend but I cant find any amongst my tools and stuff so I'm going to cut up a lowbay unit which is a big metal box with a light in it basically and use that.
Should be ready to rock by tea time hopefully, filled with carbon and ready to go.
@Deanbo. I had a look in my local Wickes for this stuff but they dont do it but I have seen this gear for sale in a Wickes type builders merchants.
