Hi

I've harvested my 1st grow. The humidity in the room stays around 58%, is this ok?
I can't really get it lower, I know it says under 50 in the FAQ.

Temps stable around 16-17c

cheers

That's with no water in the system and the RVK running ?

This is the exact humidity & temps I dried my first grow at and it dried perfectly in two weeks, had rvk running low and a fan pointing at the wall to circulate the air both on permanantly guitar.gif
theory
Yeah mine was all good at about the same humidity and temps... took about 7 days for all the side buds to dry and the huge colas took about 11 days to dry.

cheers, looking good then. just a few more weeks to go then guitar.gif

cripes, saints have got nothing on pot growers in the patience game have they?

yes, CV. No water, in fact the system has been removed totally. just the rvk thru
the carbon filter.

thanks guys

I give my cuts, three days of darkness, 60% humidity, and a strong fan blowing over them all. Then I move the dehumidifier in and set it to about 30% humidity; so it runs constantly. It takes like 3 or 4 days after this for the buds to be put into mason jars, putting them in a dark closet. Then for the first 2 or 3 days I check them often, to see if there is any moisture building up in the jar, or on the buds. After this open them once a day for the first week, every other day for the next, 2 times a week the third week, then once a week for the next 2. Then leave them alone until your ready to smoke, opening the jar once in a while to check for any inconsistancies. Total cure comes after 3 months, 6 months is peak!!! Only smoke fully cured buds, you will notice a huge difference!!!!

sorry, but sod that.

I'll be curing for 2 to 3 weeks max.

I know, READY, AIM, FIRE - but it will suit my needs perfectly.

cheers for all the info

There is a school of thought, though (of which I'm a member wink1.gif ), which says that you shouldn't do anything to hurry along the drying process, because it makes for a harsher smoke. I dry in the attic and therefore have little control over temps and humidity - it's all by feel to some extent. The current rule of thumb is 7 days to dry in hot, Summer weather and 14 in the cold of winter. I jarred up the last lot on Christmas Eve, after 10 days, because the stalks were snapping nicely; but some of the bud is still a little bit too soft for my liking and it's undergoing an extended period of burping at the moment.

Check out this recent thread on the joys of fully cured bud - I can't remember the last time I had some, although there may be an opportunity soon. If I stick to my New Year Resolution, then I should still have some left by the time the current grow is dry smile.gif

AFAIK 3 & 6 months are about right for total and peak cure. IIRC bud should be smoked within a year of harvest. I think hash keeps longer, but I'm not sure how much.

Then you ought to do a tad more reading on drying and curing then mate wink1.gif

So Master Kan, what should I read up on more about? What is your relative humidity in the UK?? Maybe my steams are snapping, after five days

Then you are drying them too quick wink1.gif

Buds should take around a fortnight to get to the snapping stage and should be in the dark all the time wink1.gif

This old fossil prefers to hang dry for around 3 weeks minimum, temps c.18-25, RH at around the 30% mark, then to place into curing jars. Peak cure is indeed at around 6 months. I smoke it before then, but prefer the long cure.
Fans blowing over the buds and dehumidifiers are a big "No no" in my grow. I do use a fan, but it points well away from the hanging buds.

Mine take 10-14 days to dry, then I cure for as long as possible (not long yet!! har har, hopefully soon!)

One of my big colas took 3 weeks to dry last time. I was not impressed haha

Screw rushing it wink1.gif

Weed is like fine wine - it will just get better and better if cured for longer and longer, but needs to be constant cool temp and pitch black, eg in a cellar like a wine cellar, or even buried underground. If u bury at 4 feet or deeper (in air and water-tight container) in the ground and leave for say 2 years it will be the best smoke u ever did try. Whoever claims 6 months is peak obviously aint tried 2 yeard old shit or older. It's very rare cos no dealer will do this sort of perfection and who would want to share if they went to this trouble with their home-grown? Not me thats for sure - do ya farkin own mate!
PS - Dont forget to make sure perfectly dried b4 burying else it will go mouldy thats for sure.

sounds like someones been reading jeffereys book, from guildford, the real expensive bible(just a bad copy of the real 1)now i've read this before, how much truth is in it, who knows. only ever heard this dude mention it, and not once have i seen any1 else do it, try it, or even talk about the topic, on any grow site, plus like you say who in th right mind is gonna dig a 4ft hole somewhere inconspicious just to bury an oz, more likely get arrested for grave digging,

I have been reading the posts and the forums on this and several others regarding drying your harvest. It seems there are several different methods spoken well of. However, differences such as humidity when drying have left me confused.
I live in a low humidity area. Indoors the humidity in the winter hovers around 30-40%. The problem I have is drying, because my plants seem to grow fine with the low humidity. I have added a mister and with everything closed up I can get it to about 50%. However, the room cannot be used to dry in because of the heat.
I have been taking a large cardboard box, with some holes cut for air exchange. This is another area I have seen some differences of opinion. Am I correct to believe minimum air exchange, steady air movement, but no fans directly on the buds?
In any event, I would appreciate if someone could help answer my questions and any other suggestion would be greatly appreciated as I have a wonderful crop getting close to harvest and I really want that nice sweet taste that I have not been able to get.
