Hi all.

I'm going to take my first foray into oil production this week

I've had a read of some of the wonderful posts (cheers grobag ) and I feel pretty confident I can do this safely.

I've had trouble sourcing decent butane in my area, the only thing i have found on the 'zero impurities' benchmark is K2, is this good enough? I have a few orders for newport in, but was keen to start 'oiling'

Another thing if anyone can help.... For reasons of capacity I was leaning towards trying the cafetiere method (still need to find a suitable one), but for reasons of safety I was toying with buying a honeybee extractor, while I learn the craft

I also heard something about using a section of scaffold bar as a tube to perform the reaction in, but it sounds a bit 'mettallic and explody' to me

anyone got any pointers for me? reviews of the honeybee thing, yields, capactiy etc, and mainly experience using K2.

Well I'm goin to to tell y'all anyway, ather round...

I decided against the Honey Bee as it:

1. Cost more money than I wanted to part with
2. Looked 'awfy small in capacity
3. Plastic inside and out

I went looking for a cafetiere that:

1. Was suitably cheaper than a Honey Bee
2. Glass or steel chambered
3. decent capacity
4. Pyrex, or solid metal construction for safety (metal )

could I bastard find one?

But then, lurking on a high shelf in a low-budget, well known high-street chain I found this:

1. £3
2. Steel inner (no contamination from plastic)
3. Insulated Plastic outer (much safer in practice than direct contact with metal or glass containing butane)
4. Large capacity (just under 500ml which in practice is just dandy for working with 300ml of butane + a load of green)
5. Insulated plastic lid, no metal on metal contact (zero spark risk )
6. Movable spout/stopper, great for safe pouring of volatile liquids
7. Handy steam hole (or butane IN hole )

The method for BHO using my travel cup thing is the same as grobag describes for his coffee pot method, thanks again for that dude, I owe this whole thread and all my oily antics to you m8 .

And to answer the question, it smokes GrrrRREAT ! its pure, its clean, its THC-tastic! it's a one-hit wonder in the bong and oils up a bifta just luvverly

Ill be honest with ya m8 I dont know , its gorgeous to smoke but horrendous to work with. I handle it as little as possible, its evil .




cheers fray It is potent, many times more potent than whatever weed/trim you start out with , as for yields, not massive about 7g trim made about 0.5g of oil, but I was after quality, not quantity.



Firstly, I learned from the FAQ's on it and the excellent threads by grobag
Therein lies great knowledge concerning science and safety . (which I now dont need to bother with cos' u can all read it there first )

I'll do my best to get a breakdown of my method, with pics done for ya this week, but no theres no drilling and no turning upside down

Short answer m8, yes the oil is double filtered as per the patented gro method

Yup.

When making up just a little bit of percy for a joint, I sprinkle in the trichs from the crystal catcher and mix them together. I generally prefer to use dry sifted resin for jelly hash as it is much easier to do than bubble.
A nicely purged lump of BHO mixed 50/50 with resin powder, rolled into a worm down the doob. Can't beat it.

Ok, as promised a breakdown of my method for BHO in my little tin cup






Working with butane and the likes can be extremely dangerous (also great fun ). Honey Oil and Hash Oil is great smoke but it is not worth harming yourself to make, Please be careful and for fucks sake DO NOT SMOKE while making BHO.


First thing I do is get together what I'm going to need, you dont want to get caught needing something in the middle of a evaporation (especially if its something like a vap dish )



Approximately 7g of well dried, scissor-chopped, semi-reasonable trim (If you have read grobags sig thread you will understand we need a decent amount of trichomes for good results) And my tin cup


I couldnt find a metal coat hanger on the day I tried grobags method, this is the solution I MacGyver'd And my trusty 'Vap dish, its clear and its PYREX so it wont go 'pop' at the critical moment. Oh, and a non metallic stirrer, I'm using a plastic chopstick.


Anything else you need should be assembled at this point. butane evaporates at room temp, but my work area is cold, so just in case Ive got some simmering water ready, a steamer and a slow cooker insert I use as a stand for the vap dish.

The main thing is to get everything ready, before we start, clean and prepare your work area have your last smoke etc.

Ok I apologise for the pictures being less descriptive of the method than the last batch, this is because I was trying to be safe, and not piss around with the camera.

Essentially what happened was this:

• Put lid on cup of trim
• Put on pair of marigolds
• Put heavy workgloves on top of that (thermal protection is the key, youll see why in a mo)
• Emptied 250ml of butane into the cup find the best nozzle to fit, and strike a balance between good fit on the 'IN' and not building too much pressure on the 'OUT', use a cloth to cover potential spray, otherwise youll spit trim everywhere or build up too much pressure which cant be good
• Using the chopstick I make sure all the trim is under the surface of the liquid butane, I replace the lid, shutting the spout halfway

When you have the lid on u can safely 'swirl' the contents, or take off the lid and stir manually, but beyond that I dont get too vigorous


.. However what ur looking at here is the butane bubbling and 'reacting' all by itself

....

quite transfixing to watch it boil away even tho its freezing, Im glad that the travel cup has a plastic outer to make it safer to handle when its so cold.

Now for the filtration:

• Camera down
• gloves on
• Carefully pour the liquid out of the handy spout in the travel cup, being careful not to spill
• make sure ur 'vap dish is in place under the filters.

Heres the last of the liquid butane filtering merrily away...


And almost immediately theres ice forming on the underside of the pyrex dish. Now you can see why the safety measures

I moved things to the bamboo steamer once the majority of the butane had evaporated. Note: Im not heating actively under the 'vap dish, the butane has pretty all gone of its own accord anyway...

I put a white plate underneath here so you could see the 'rings' of honey oil forming as the butane evaporates...

The previous batch of BHO, very potent this is, very strong 'up' high, mucho THC imo



Some dirty ISO-oil I made earlier Its definetly got a broader cannabinoid range, I love this stuff, its essentially just the best of the strain, concentrated
