Soldier Toker
Hiya everyone,

After being in the military for over a year, and finally getting a medical discharge which i am well happy about, I can start thinking about getting my old life back, needless to say im more than excited. Over this last year a couple of sources i used to score weed from have dried up, thanks to a little piggy force. So therefore ive been thinkin of growin my own weed, ive spoke to the mrs bout it and she is happy with it so here i am. Ive been reading a lot of grow diaries and they are more than inspirational, but my knowledge on growin is very limited.
So I was wonderin if anyone could recommend a good book or website that you have used to help you when ya first started out. Ive looked on amazon and sites like that but theres so much to choose from, im gonna probably look to be growin out of a closet, or maybe a tent if my new house will have the room.

Sorry for the long winded question, any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

welcome soon-to-be-ex-soldier-toker rofl.gif

good to hear you have the all-important green light from the missus yahoo.gif
this is the best place to start. check out the growroom designs and grow diaries, look for someone who has/is doing something similar to what you have in mind and see how they got on.

i'm doing my first grow but have the real advantage of a friend close by who has been growing lovely weed for years smoke.gif he helped get me started and pops over to keep an eye on them. i've had issues so far with condensation, leaf spot mould, yellowing of the leaves (nitrogen def i think) and low temps/humidity at times.

the plants are still alive tho and should get me something to smoke by the end. i would recommend "the cannabis grow bible" as a good book to see you through the grow - with plenty of visits here. get a digital camera if you don't have one too. a picture says a thousand words on here wink1.gif

good luck and keep us posted

Soil or compost is adviseable to new growers as the medium for growing in .

I grew in hydro for my first go too - it was much more involving than compost.

'Involving' is a key word. I try and keep things as simple and straightforward as possible and try to avoid as much 'involving' as I can.

Best of luck though. I never made a rod for my own back if it can be avoided.

Don't be scared off of Hydro.
It really is very easy, that said it can have problems (just like all methods).

Hydro or Compost?
Each to his/her own I think. But I agree with those who say "Start with compost"; its a good place to learn and I think (personal opinion) its more forgiving than hydro for the beginner. Then, if you're technically minded, move on to Hydro. I'm a Compost man myself, but that's just me.
Welcome to UK420 M8.
If I might suggest - read a few diaries of differing grwo styles; a hydro, a compost, a sativa, and indica etc etc. Then decide which style suits you and take it from there. Most folks here will be more than happy to help in any way possible, just fire off the questions.

I do like the thought of hydro, just seems cleaner to have in the house, although i think im gonna be going wiv compost first, mainly because it just seems natural. deffo going to try hydro in the future tho, i got many years in front of me stoned.gif Many high years!

Is it just me or once you start reading a diary do you become hooked, ive read all of Theorys and I am so jealous.

A good place to start is Theorys Diary wink.gif

The comittment and enthusiasm in converting the growing wardrobe to a fully useable spaceship meant his grow had to be the Best effort too guitar.gif .Personally i think Theory is Nasa and Area 54 and all that .. i heard hes got that G-13 original clone ph34r.gif .

Just remember never a little extra water and extra nutrients .. stick to the min as required by the plant.

Let it tell you when it needs a feed by appearance and soil texture.

Good luck mate

Welcome mate,
As everyone says, you'll find all the info you need here (all opinions). There are too many books to choose from (isn't that good). George Cervantes has several their all recommended.
Soil or Hydro?. For a first grow I'd say soil it's more forgiving of any mistakes you may make. With hydro (although yields are bigger) if you get one little thing wrong you can ruin your plants in a few hours. With hydro you have to check daily : PH levels, EC levels, temp (water & air), feed mix/balance, airation & circulation and drainage of water reservoir. Also there's a lot of water sloshing about in a flat - wouldn't want that to leak through to the neighbours. Soil is much easier as it acts as a buffer for all the above things - you'll just have to feed & water the plants.
Species - Again with a first grow in a new space ( and you're probably gasping for a toke of your own) grow a short, stumpy, quick-growing indica (say 45-60 days flowering).

Good luck - well done for getting out of the army
