Can anyone tell me what these red spots are?I dont think its leaf spot infection, it doesn't seem shiny under light but im not sure....the only thing I did this week was foliar feed twice in a week with a half strenght nutrient mix and ive had few fruit fly,not infested just catching between 4 to 6 a day for the last week, they sometimes crawl out of the perlite when I spray nutrient, little fuckers are attracted to the warmth and humidity, I was kinda thinking the spots are from them sucking the juices from the leaves?...Thanks for any help

Im not sure what type of flys they are so ill describe them the best I can.....They are very small mosckito looking flys,I think they are Fruit Fly, they are black, and are like a Gnat or Midget....Anyway the little fuckers are getting under the perlite im growing in. Everytime I water the plants about 3 times a day I either find one crawling from under the perlite or flying around the grow area.im growing in perlite only (Hydro).....I also noticed these red spots during the week and though it might be caused by them feeding on the leaves, can anyone tell what it is? it doesn't shine under light like a mold/fungus so I dont think its leaf spot. And can anyone recomend anything to kill or stop the flys getting into the perlite cause im afraid they are breeding and laying eggs in the perlite. im on a budget so cant afford expencive extraction and filters so my wardobe is not airtight..........Could the spots in the picture be caused by the flys

Sounds like black fly, quite common.
They can be damaging in huge quantities and quite annoying... but they are quite harmless.
manually kill as many as you can, place yellow sticky fly traps around the room to ctach the adults.
take 2" off soil and cover with clay pebbles to prevent the adults laying eggs.
their are safe sprays you can buy aswell.

Yup, I'm in the process of getting rid of some myself, you've probably got fungus gnats, not that harmful, but a pain in the arse none the less, I'm using gnat off at the moment, I don't find it that good as it doesnt seem to eradicate the problem just control it.
The best way to get rid of them is to use a predator mite called "Hypoaspis miles" There bloody brilliant, they go into your soil and eat the larvae all up (yum yum)
I've used these before and they eradicated the problem completely,
Mr P
EDIT to add: sorry I assumed it was a soil grow

Hi sixpots....Its just 2 leaves about half way up the plant, about 3 or 4 nodes, both stems are at the node where I took a cutting about a week ago.

Hi Jiveturky, the reason i asked this is i allways seem to get the odd leave looking like this,in roughly the same place.Put it down to a mild overfertilisation, and seeing as it does,nt seem to spread just left it alone.Hav'nt got any sort of flies in my room so cant see it could be this. Its intresting what you say about it being in the same place as you took a cutting from, will have to check this out tonight to see if mine is the same.

sadly i think ive got the same problem, just noticed tonight and ive killed about 10 little fly thing. also just looked and 2 plants have got a few little brownish spot, and looking underneath the leave its like black spots. i thought it would be safe at this time of year? thought it would be to cold, though i imagine the heat fromt he light attracts them. my plants are only a cpl of weeks old so i hope they will get through it. is it normal for perlite to turn a yellowish colour?.
