Ordered an extraction fan from t'internet, thinking it was the same size i had used a couple of years back. When it came it turned out to be a size bigger - it is the 160l extractor ruck fan.

The fan is good, it drags out the stale air and brings in the fresh air a treat. But the problem is it sounds like a god dammned jet engine when it is running. Am worried that during the night that this will be heard next door (is a terrist house).

Is that a cheap easy to implement way to reduce the noise of the fan? Hell even the sound of it sucking the air into the filter has volume.

dead easy simple and cheap too mate smile.gif
get yourself a dimmer switch or a fan speed controller from b&q or homebase, dimmers need to have a good rating of at least 400w though, have a look on the diy section for fan speed controllers theres tons of information there mate, tells you how to fit then and all sorts smile.gif
good luck

You can get sound baffles for some extractors. Have a look in the uk420 shop and see if they've got one that fits your system.

Cheers guys, think i'll give the dimmer thing a shot. Have it roaring in the day, then just on lower power at night.

Work out what aspect of the noise is causing you the most bother - if it's the air movement, then you should get a silencer first - if it's the vibration noise, then get a speed controller, and also make sure that you're fan's mounted with bungees etc. yinyang.gif
