Hey all...

I am busy setting up a nice little grow-drobe designed by myself!!

Now before i go out and spend my money on shit that isn't gonna work - I'd like some of the Elite for some advice!!

Now i read alot about the HPS lights and agree it is the way to go (maybe when i got an actual room i'll use them) but the drobe i wanna build would suit me to be a little under 7 foot and about 3-4 foot wide - is this enough???

I've also read alot on flouro's and wouldnt mind using them for my first grow and if i do get the HPS i can always use the flouro's for veg only.... Sooooo what kind of flouro's would be ideal for both veg and flowering???

And one last thing cos it's my first grow i was thinking of starting off with some Malawi - But is this gonna get to big for my drobe and just stick to the Malawi being outdoors??? - i do have some White Widow and Papaya seeds but wanna get some experience on the grow front first!!!!

I would say your space sounds fine for a 250 HPS provided you have decent extraction....

saying that ..I used a 400 in a similar sized space..... with ...well.... very little extraction...


Personally I wouldn't flower with fluros or even enviros..... simply because any decent bud will have to be very close to your light source..... so small plants....

Saying that many people here grow quite happily with enviros - and get great results...


I just reckon if you're going to invest all the time required and of course run the obvious risks.... then you require a reasonable return ....

A 250 watt HPS is the perfect beginner's light

The most useable light and the least heat you can get from 300 watts of electricity.

Cheap as chips and very manageable.

I reccomend you bypass the learning curve and save your pennies.

We say that to light your space adequately you need 50w/sqft so you work your grow area cos you dont tell us the depth and Bobs your uncle

I'm guessing it's a standard 'drobe so 2 foot deep - so 6 to 8 square feet - 300 to 400 watts.

It's bigger than my space so with actual ventilation (as opposed to my leaving the doors open technique ), you should be able to run a 400 watt light nicely. In fact pro-rata I'm running twice that. (and my plants are loving it )

Last Q - How far between the lights and the tops before i get some burnage???

And Church mate - Your drobe was my inspiration cos i've got a room but it's got way too many critters in it so the drobe looked feasible plus the fact that people visiting wont know what it is!!!!
