Full Version: Best Strain For Training/small Grow

Hi all,

With the shortage of the green stuff at the moment im going to have a whack at growing my own - i dont smoke loads and a 'stealth' system is required. had a hydro grow with 1mx1mx2m growtent setup in my last house (loft) but the gf was really unhappy with it.. we now live together so im going to have to go PC Case! ph34r.gif .. i can get away with a smelly case in my games room as im always lighting insense in their anyway so the smell would just mix nicely im hoping rofl.gif

my thoughts are to go good old fasioned soil - so im only having to run 1x envirolight and 1x fan from the pc case so to keep it quiet (no bubbling noises etc) and to train the plant as best i can, and have screen of green 3/4 the way up.

- not tried scrog/training before so looking forward to the challenge.

My question is what strain is best for this kind of grow.. looking around ive seen 'blueberry' plant height should be 0.7-1m -> seems to be the shortest height growing strain... so im hoping that trained well enough i'll get myself a decent amount to smoke (im only allowed to smoke w/ends now anyway! so im thinking a 1 plant small grow will be sufficient for my needs) .. i'll just try and keep the process going.. maybe have to get 2 cases one for veg one for flower - but thats for future thought anyway smile.gif .. i'll be growing from seed initially for this first grow.

does anyone know of a better (smaller) strain to grow than blueberry?
- something newbie friendly too would help as ive not tried soil/training before.

Many thanks in advance
Storm.

Cheers Owd,

Just ordered some Lowryder #2 seeds.. just found out about that strain .. it may solve all my probs! (space and ultimately : time - the lack of erb around at the mo being the main problem!! doh.gif )
Id never even heard of LowRyder before - or that anything could grow so small/quickly.. we'll see how it pans out anyways..
Thought id give that a little blast first (as it looks like i wont need to train the plant) as ive not even grown in soil before, so will be experience in soil growing if nothing else before i start to try advanced grow techniques (scrog).

Fingers crossed i'll get something worth lighting up out of it anyways!

cheers

Why waste your time with lowryder when you could quite easily go for a squat Indica mate? unsure.gif

Agree with Bish thumbsup.gif

p.s. Love your avatar - the Life Aquatic is a great film.

Cheers guys,

yeah to be honest the thing that appealed after seeing the Lowrider strain was the quick time to harvest (as i'll have to grow from seed initially - and have been without for long enough, so will only have to wait a couple more months to get some erb with that strain) - i saw a few people had issues with only getting a J's worth!.. but for speed initially its worth shot to me.

but I will certainly will look into some sort of squat indica for future.. thanks.
do you have any recommendations on strains or where's best to find out about what small sized indica's are out there?

- s**dbank.**.uk had blueberry down as one of the smallest heights - would that be classed as one of the "squat indicas"?

All this growing termininology is kinda new to me again (been a few yrs since i last grew and at that time height was never an issue so i just grew the strains that i'd heard of - whether that be indica/sativa i had no idea!, namely blueberry, oasis, white widow, durban poison - although from what i remember my blueberry grew higher than my white widow yet s*bank has whitewidow down as a taller plant - perhaps my memory's not what it used to be!.. or perhaps i was doing something better at that stage.. 34.gif .. i never did clones or owt, just grew the selection then tried something different next time- always from seed)

-> as mentioned ill have a go with the lowryder#2 as its ordered now anyway, but any strain suggestions for my next grow certainly welcomed smile.gif

Church, Yes indeed, Life Aquatic is such a brilliant film.. must be one of my alltime faves, really not at all what i expected..
- i have to say the whole part where they goto the island ala james bond (rescue Jeff Goldblum) just cracks me up sooo much everytime rofl.gif

Cheers

I know that my durga mata (pure indica from paradise) has just started to show preflowers at around 10inches. 4-6weeks veg i think (never keep track since the plants ready when its ready right!)

She will finish under a metre so you shouldnt have any trouble if you decide to grow another strain after your lowryder's.

Set up a grow diary, Im interested in this new lowryder 2.

Good luck buddy

Edit. Browse 420store and the breeders tell you the average height the plants finish.

cheers for the suggestion Danny, oh and i'll certainly setup a grow diary on the forum! smile.gif

I am growing Durga Mata for my first grow and it looks like the plants are going to end up being short and stubby, this one at 3 weeks after potting germ'd seeds. I am keeping a diary so you can watch my progress if you like. yahoo.gif

I read on here someone managed harvest a Durga plant which was only 18ins tall when it was ready with the help of topping and training. Supposed to be a blinding smoke and only 20 quid for 10 seeds too, may be worth a look for your second grow. spliff.gif
