Hi Mr Burns.
I use a rainforest for my cloning.
1 - I add a little hormone to the res.
2 - I water for 5 minutes every 2 hours.
3 - I keep them in 24 hours of lighting (Florescents).
4 - Ph is 5.8-6.5.
5 - On day 3-5 I feed to EC 1.0
6 - I move to Rockwool cubes when roots are 2inches long (usually day 7)
7 - Temperatures run at 32 degrees with humidity at 60+ Res temp is set to heat to 21
8 - Florescents are 10 - 12 inches above plants.
9 - I don't use a fan anywhere near plants.
10 - leave them alone.
So far out of over 200 cuttings I have lost about 5-10.
I don't know your system but if you are losing your cuts before they get established I would check PH + Temperatures + Watering times together with lighting and perhaps compare them to mine. I am not saying My system is foolproof but it works very well for me.
I have not mentioned preperation of cuttings as you say they seem to be doing ok then fade away. That suggests to me a water routine allowing a bit of a drying out period may be needed but that has to be watched very carefully. This is just to force rooting.
I can only share my limited experience but wish you good luck mate.

Hi dellsbell. Nice to hear you are having some joy.
I used to do a few in muck quite a few years ago but now I have dived into Hydro and I am loving it. Lots of cuttings mean more plants to choose a good set of future mothers from. I have found the secret of my own horizontal grow success is to allow the growing medium to have a chance to dry out for very short times. The stretch period after switching 12/12 can be very dangerous though as I have found 12 plants can drink as much as 30 litres a day. My NFT trays hold solution to a level of 1/2 inch below the drain slot during this period and I top up every day and the feed pump is on 24/7. However when the stretch slows I revert back to 15 minutes every 2 hours.
A good guide is the EC of the nutrients. If the EC rises try dropping the nutrient strength a couple of points. Likewise if it drops try to increase the level. I believe this is the plants way of comunicating it's needs to you.
First and formost examine the plants as often as you can - check ph and ec regularly. The plants WILL tell you when they are happy. Lovely deep green leaves with no curling or Brown tinting. Above all - if you see a problem starting. Do a complete fresh nutrient mix at a couple of points weaker than normal of say 1.4 and ask here for help. There are some clever chappies here that will be happy to help. Most problems have been encountered by others before and we all hate to see someone lose a grow.
Good luck
