Hi people great site
I'm new to all this forum stuff so if this is in the wrong place i appologise! (i did post this somewere else but in the wrong place i think!)

A while ago i was given two 'grow lights' i have looked on the bulbs and they say osram true lite 250w mbf/u. I was wondering if they were any good for growing with? I'm not looking for perfect specimens (not just yet anyway) just a bit of smoke for me and a mate.

We have access to quite a large outbuilding (5' x 9' x 7') and have decided to devide just a 3' x 5' space to use as we only have two lights.

Any advice on a basic grow using this space would be great. We don't mind spending a bit of cash as it's still got to be cheeper than buying it of the street..
Thanks in advance

Good to See another grower starting up on here! we may get the dealers out of business very shortly!!
the size of your outbuildings are fine just make sure they are 100% light tight, (dont want to nosy neighbours wondering why your out house is lit up like the blockpool tower) as for your bulbs, Can you post a picture on here so we can see them, but the Mbf/u bit means Mercury (i Think i'm a noob too) and i aint sure wether or not you can grow using them ?? one of the more experienced growers can answer that for you, make sure that your grow area is nice and clean too, dont want any nasty pests hasseling your plants! and either paint the whole room with white matt paint or get some mylar and cover all the walls with that!!
Anyways i hope this was of some use to you, its the first time i have ever trie to give advise on growing!

Welcome to UK420 mart! I think those are mercury lamps you've got.Bit ho hum really.Tell you what though, seeing as you 've got a potentially great grow space and want to get something suitable, maybe have a look in the UK420 growshop and look at the new digital 600 Hps lamps.Just about perfect for your set up.
I particularly mention the digital lights as these are a new generation of lighting and are more efficient, run cooler and knock out more lumens than standard lights that have coil ballasts.

I know I'm sounding like a salesman but these lamps are mustard and they are really reasonably priced in the shop.I'm gonna go digital when I've got the ackers myself.

All the best with your growing yinyang.gif

I seem to recall MTF lamps are even less efficient than fluorescents.

Electricity is the biggest expense when growing indoors so if you treat yourself to an HID light, think of it as maybe a 20 year investment (depending on how many crops per year)

If you've bein paying commercial prices, it will pay for itself in the first grow smile.gif

thanks for the advice dr rockster i have looked on the site for the digital lights and they seem to be just the job. i take it they will do the complete grow from start to finish and not have to change to a 'flowering bulb' (correct me if i'm wrong) and would i get away with 1 light for a few plants (maybe 3 or 4)?

15 square feet, relatively low light levels ... I would think you want about 15 plants and move them around.

that sounds great..
any seeds that are good for a first timer?

When i first decided i was gonna start growing i did some investigation into the different seeds, just asked in hydro shops etc, most people told me to try a skunk as they can take a bit more stress and hasssel and still produce a good smoke plus it doesnt require much speaclist attention, so i got dutch passion skunk #11 which is a feminised version of the DP skunk#1, everything has been plain sailing so far apart from one beings a little bit gangly then bending and snapping! but for the price of £20 you really cant go far wrong, plus i noticed the 420shop has a special on skunk seeds this week!
so buy em quick, before i buy them out!
Good luck

I used Paradise seeds Magic Bud and they've virtually grown by themselves. I never check the ph, the ec, etc and have just fed and watered her. She's nearly ready for cropping and is just full of...well, big magic buds.

Go and read through all the descriptions of the seeds you can afford to buy and see if any of them are recommended for inexperienced growers, there's quite a few out there.

Good luck and happy growing, you've made the best decision of your puffing career.
