I have done a lot of reading/researching with the forums and books. I have the Big Buds Vol 1 and 2, Ask Ed, Jorg Cervante's Bible, etc.. And I was looking into the "white strains". I was wondering what the general view of these. Which "white strain" do you prefer to grow? Maybe you don't like growing them at all, and prefer to grow skunks, afghans, hazes, and/or NLs? I am wondering the differences in them. I read that if you let any sat/indica cross go another two to four weeks after the breeder/seedshop guide tells you when it's flowered, that the body stone will be more potent. I have also read that the pistil or hairs that are on the flowers aren't psychoactive. I see that some people go nutz over orange/red/white hairs. I don't think that the hairs look pretty, but rather the good green/purple colors. I am mostly interested in what you guys have to say about White Widow and White Rhino from your growing experience. I see that some grow White Shark/Peacemaker and White Russian, but I see more still grow Rhino and the Widow. From the looks of the plants, it seems that White Widow has less hairs, but overall less bud than the others. So from your experience, which one would you rather go with? based on - total yield, smell, bag appeal, type of stone, power of stone, less anxiety/paranoia, hairs/ no hairs, ease of grow, resistance to cold/mold, better inside or outside, finishes faster, quality/availibility, what white strain better to breed with, and anything else. And also, please state which seed company you prefer.....I was also did a search and found this:

if done well, almost every bud turns out white

the white widow bio ( has nothing to do with medium , white widow bio is its name) is one of my favourites, just like k2

furthermore i prefer afghan strains..which can turn out pretty "white".

this is such a stupid question but i have to ask it to put my mind at rest

does this mean that the pistils don't turn orange like on other strains?

Hi Miss Kitty.It's because they appear white,especially when photographed with direct flash.Just very prominent resin shining all over. Leastwise that's my take on it.

Yeah,I think you are right about that Yoda.Some other strains look pretty white to me too,and they do'nt have the 'white' prefix in the name.

no it doesn't. brown = dead on all varieties.



that's the same effect as letting the air and light get to dried bud. all you're doing is letting the thc degrade to cbd (i think). more thc = more head stone. more cbd = more body stone,

the pistils aren't psychoactive but they do have trichomes on them that are.

CBD is what makes you feel giddy and sick , but you still need some.
Cropping early will keep CBD's low and the high is more ...speedy .

When marinol was released it was synthetic THC , and this was thought not to work as all other valueable ingredient weren't there.
Cbd being just one of those.

ok lads white strains tend have more of these things than other strains. This gives them the white part of their name. This is not to say that white strains are weaker than other strains. They do have just as much if not more glandular trichomes.

1) Non glandular trichomes:

Have two forms. Both these types produce no psychoactive substances.
A. Short and pointed.

B. Long hair like and pointed ie: very sharp.
Both are made of calcium carbonate crystal and are clear like glass

I tend to complicate questions too much. I guess what I am asking is, if you have grown a few of these strains: White Widow, White Rhino, White Russian, and/or Great White Shark..which to you prefer, and why? Sorry about all the confusion written above.

I was told that it was sprayed with a coke solution. Worst thing was...I believed them.

nowadays a lot of sorayed crap is on the market
the "spray "is usually chalk/talcum powder, in some occasions ground metal bits , and concredte powder..

this is all done to get a few extra oz out of a kilo.
just before harvest , the powder is being thrown in front of the fan .
then its left to dry , and excess leaf is trimmed off.

but most commersh crapis just harvested too early , and dried too quickly..

also lots of ferts remain in bud , due to bad flushing..

I've grown out both DP's White widow, and Nirvana's White Rhino, and to be honest, I preferred the Rhino from Nirvana. It's an outrageous yielder, kolas like baseball bats, and a stone like being hit in the head by baseball bats. From what I can gather it's actually a white widow derivative, though I can't find out what the rest of the mix is, but basically it's White Widow ++. It's a very uniform strain for Nirvana as well, only the one phenotype showed for me. As to the White in the title, it's a marketing word really. When White Widow was introduced it was marketed as being 'almost white with trichomes', but that was before everybody and thier mother started a seed company. Nowadays most plants can be white with trichs if grown right. Hope this helps.

I beleive these white strains will contain more trichs than an average strain but not to say it will be stronger smoke than a normal trich strain....NL can look white if done right

I grew Nirvana's White Rhino once.The stone was great,but the problem was, other stuff after this didn't get me stoned anymore.At the same time I had a batch of Nirvana's Papaya,NL and Afghan and when I started smoking White Rhino the other stuff just didn't give me the proper buzz.
I think I'll stay away from the white strains for a while, just so many other great buds out there to try first.

White widow seems to have a few variations which offer a more sativa like stone than the White Rhino. Personally I've grown Aloha White Widow and DP White Widow and found both had a much more cerebral stone than expected. I understand the White Rhino to me more medicinal with a body stone/pain killing stone.


Love growing the White strains because they really do look spectacular when growing. You think they can't possibly get any frostier, then, the next morning....

In the case of white rhino, widow and russian the white refers to having that brazilian sativa in it's lineage.

up untill the start of this year white widow was by far the strongets and best green i had ever sampled on one occasion at a mates house we were sat toking he jumps out of chair screaming thats fucking crack he was saying it was spiked with crack but no just down to earth white widow but i was introduced to sensi seeds super skunk now this mother fucker so white with thc it looks crazy so i would recommed super skunk

ive grown dp white widow its savage a total head blag (if you want to get stoned go buy it) dont no what the white means though

I have only grown Nirvanas White rhino so can only comment on that.

• It's really strong knockout weed.
• Mine smells like bad BO (not very nice at all)
• Yields okay but not the best i have grown.
• Is really white with trichs.
• Buds looks great

I was planning to buy white widow from dutch passion, but I was asking myself the same thing... white whidow x white rhino x white russian, is there any uncertainty about the thc strength of the last two? arent them newer and prob more powerfull breed... what a good reason to go with wwidow?

Wouldn't mind growing Widow, i've smoked it enough times, and there is quite a varience in it. The cat piss pheno is the best smoke out of the lot IMO. Thing is whos widow to buy.

As far as i know the black widow from Mr Nice is the original as the breeder (shanti) used to be at Grteenhouse seeds. Although i hear many good things about Dutch Passions white widow.
