Full Version: How Can I Lower My Humidity From 60%?

I am going into the third week of flowering and I cant get the RH below 55%-60%.The temperatur stays around 80. I reduced watering till they Needed it. I then put the ballast into the room next to the fan to dry out the air. Thinking the dry heat from the ballast would help. It lowered not even 5%. I have read everything I could. My room is pretty well contained but ventallated also. A 4 inch vortex fan is used with a "can-fan filter" to suck clean smelling air out of a 4x5x7 foot crawlspace through ducting and a cool tube. It is humid in the basement I am in. My plan was to implement CO2, but I would like to have everything under control first. What do you recomend?

i just answered this question on your thread about the carbon filter ....

Hey mikeypdc,as long as your room is well ventilated then 55-60% rh should be just fine wink.gif

REALLY? I though I was looking for 30%?
I thought 50% would cause problems? The humidity in the basement I am in has a RH of 50% so venting won't help?
Sorry I have 2 threds with the same question.

my humidity was at 70% this morning then by lunch time it dropped to 65% so i went out and bought a small dehumidifier from argos to try to get it right down. i am about the same 3 weeks or so into flowering smoke.gif

no.gif

That's well within the fineanddandy range lol.gif

As long as your ventilation is adequate (not sure that your 4 inch will quite cut the mustard) you should be able to maintain a range of 30% - 70% which is quite safe. What size fan are you using for extraction?

Peeps seem to get (I know I did when I first started) hung up about humidity, what's the plants look like under their current regime? Any :photos: to see how healthy they are.

60-70% humidity is perfect conditions for a plant at any stage, the only reason we lower the humidity in the later parts of flowering is to prevent bud rot.
bud rot shouldnt affect buds till the last 2 weeks of flowering but if you have a good ventilation set up then 60% should be fine even with very large buds.

I am using A 4-inch Vortex fan to extract air and cool a cooltube. Do you really think a 4-inch fan is inadequate? I wanted to keep noise down and thought a smaller fan would be better. Now I read that a larger (more expensive) fan run at lower speed would be better for lower noise. I didn't think I needed any more anyway?
The difference in price was $100 more for the 6-inch compared to the 4-inch and much stronger(i thought overkill DUH). At the time money was short so getting the cheaper was ok seeming it was more than I needed.
The fan I do has keep the cooltube cool to the touch. So much so that I am going to put another bulb in there. Maybe a 600 to go with the 400. I thought this would clear up some humidity too. Being in a basement, the floor takes away some heat. Sice the room is already 80 I think i am gonna start another thread about adding another light. Get some input.
Meanwhile, I wanted to add CO2. If I use a bigger fan I would suck it out. I can't imagine a fan keeping the cooltube & lamp any cooler. I tried putting the ballast in the room for dry heat but it didn't help much. Sorry I am so scatter brained today! just stressed!
Well do I get bigger fan or Another Light, Add CO2 or just keep the humidity at 55%-60%?
I guess I should start another thread. THANKS

I tried adding another fan to the end of the exaust, pullin air through quicker. It didn't make much of a difference in temp or humidity at all! I used a blower at the end of my exaust for 30 minutes and no change?
It was just loud. How much stronger of a fan would I need to get my 80-85 degree temps down?
I also put a huge box fan to circulat air to the room and it helped a little but was very unpractical. Not to mention everyone who wanted to see could!
Help me out! PLEASE!

When I get together the cash thats the way I am gonna go! I want to add another light. Maybe a 400 or a 600 Hps!
My room is getting cooler now that the outside temps are dropping (75 Day 50 Night). I have always left an extra 2 feet of floor space for just such a reason. I am gonna start a thread about this expansion when I get the info together.

Everyone...Thanks for Helping
