An antipsychotic will only have an effect if you are a psychotic or prone to psychotic episodes. Antipsychotics can prevent reoccurence of episodes, lessen the severity of them, or prolong the space between them. It's cannabidiol that's been mooted to have antipsychotic properties, and from personal experience I'd say it does (and not only that, but is in fact far more effective than any other antipsychotic I've ever taken, and with no dodgy side effects, other than couchlock and the munchies). I can't speak as to whether it is, in fact, CBD itself, or something to do with terpines, or what, all I know is if I smoke heavy couchlock indica (which I perceive to be generally higher in CBD than sats or mixed hybrids) I feel far more grounded, less prone to psychotic episodes (in fact I've never suffered one while I've had a supply of decent indica), and if in 'that' headspace smoking indica brings me back to a more level plane. Conversely, if I'm in 'that' headspace, smoking pure sativas (which I perceive to be higher in THC but low in CBD - but again it could all be the terpines) does me no favours at all - not nearly as bad as drinking or taking stimulants, but still not to be recommended (and no, it doesn't CAUSE anything, just excacerbates an existing problem when I'm in extremis - just thought I'd have to put in that for the sake of peace...).
Smoking cannabis has absolutely NO causal link with psychosis whatsoever. I'll say that again, smoking cannabis does NOT cause psychosis, regardless of when you started smoking, and anyone who tells you it does has an ulterior motive, since there is STILL absolutely no evidence, not one single shred of real, untainted, properly researched evidence to suggest any causal link whatsoever. Oh, sure, there's reams of badly excecuted pseudoscientific bollocks that purports to demostrate a link, but anyone with even the slightest knowledge of experimental technique and statistical analysis need only take a glimpse at it to realise none of it is worth the paper it's written on. The ONLY credible scientific evidence at all with reference to cannabis and psychosis is the recent suggestions of, yep - you guessed, the potential antipsychotic effects of cannabidiol.
There are some substances that can spark off long-term psychosis, amphetamine being one, alcohol being another (the prohibitionists like to keep that one quiet), but in general psychosis is an inherited condition - you are born with the potential to at some point in your life suffer a psychotic episode or develop a psychotic illness, or you aren't. It's just you won't know until you suffer one (though early onset depression, polysubstance abuse, alcoholism, compulsive behaviour like gambling or risky sexual behaviour and other things can be indicators you may be potentially at risk, at least of manic-variety psychosis).

Didn't this the so-called doctor who gave the original findings on cannabis & pshcyosis admit later that he'dve got the same results if he'd used milk as a study?
& damned right that they're the two worst offenders...

True enough if you are refering to the treatment of pshycosis, but antipsychotics will have an effect and a marked one at that.On every person who is to be given them
That effect would be the side effect. Vile drugs like chlopromazine. The shit makes you photo sensitive. You need to wear a total block sun cream or you FRY

plus it makes you eat like you aint been fed in a month :lard-arse: Super size me here we come

Aye, you're not wrong, the Lithium & carbamazepine I'm on have some particularly amusing side effects, including the common weight gain (I used to be rake thin, now I got a belly like the Buddha and I only eat 1 meal a day most of the time) and a particularly hilarious screwing around with your body's temperature control, so you can feel freezing cold on a hot summers day wearing a jumper, or boiling hot wearing shorts in a blizzard

Wouldn't go near the things if I didn't have to, but I do, think I'm unstable now ? Unmedicated me is like across between Jekyll & Hyde and the Incredible Hulk (don't make me angry, you won't like me when I'm angry), with a generous dose of Marvin the Paranoid Android from Hitchikers Guide To The Galaxy

I'm on the Carbamazepine too... put on 2 stones weight despite eating next to nothing, and have become a human fountain, with water gushing from sweat glands whenever it feels like it!
On the positive side, it seems to have brought out the hippy in me

Is that a positive thing!??! I think so...

I'm a lot fonder of the carb than the lithium, I have to abmit my doc writes wierd prescription amounts so I always seem to have a few carbs left over come repeat prescription time (I think it's cos I take 2 lithium a day but 3 carbamazepine), so I confess I occasionally pop an extra couple if I'm having a particularly bad day. 5 carbamazepine and a spliff sorts out most problems

Does make you dribble like MacMurphy at the end of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, though.
