I went to visit a Friend on her birthday. She's splitting up with her partner of ten years, citing his constantly being stoned as a prime reason. Bloke met me at the station and we shared several bowls of hash in quick succession before Friend came home from work. Bloke told me that he was determined to stop smoking pot because he was developing a heart condition that may be exacerbated by doing that. Atrial Fibrillation is when the electricity in your heart motor goes loco and your upper atria start fluttering out of sync with the lower ventricles, which can lead to stroke. It's common in the over-seventies, who take Warfarin to thin their blood, but he's 45 for fuxake.
Bloke has had a couple of paroxysmal episodes this year and has been prescribed some pills that he can take when his heart starts misfiring. My Friend, his about-to-be-ex-partner, is a nurse and she reckons his pot smoking is a causal factor in his heart condition and that there have been cases of young stoners reporting AF as an *immediate consequence* of smoking pot. Bloke reckons she's exaggerating. He's been smoking for thirty years and isn't about to stop now.
After dinner, I left to stay at a house up the road. Next morning, Bloke wakes up with his heart going haywire. Pills don't calm it down and he has to go to hospital for an ECG and intravenous drugs. Fucking hell!
So, this Bloke is now convinced that his cannabis smoking directly induces AF and that he has to stop smoking the stuff immediately and forever. Anyone ever heard of anything similar?
