Hi everyone!
Iam happy to have found this board! Iam moving to the uk this week from canada.
My plan is to set my self up in a nice little flat and enjoy time oversea! yahoo.gif
I have a few questions that hopefully some of you may help.. I know that it may seems like dumb questions, but this is the first uk community on the net that I found. And this is my style of forum! biggrin.gif

I have never been to the uk before so i would like to know if its easy to find a cheap flat to live (in the manchester/ liverpool area)... And how hard is it to find work (any kind of basic job, just to provide money for rent ...)
Is electricity really expensive?

Is there any stores where i could pick up feminised seeds? (in the manchester/ liverpool area) I know theres alot of online sites, but i would prefer to pick them up in person and pay cash... Also what hydroponics store would you recommend (reliable, good price and good quality)

Ive been told to stay away from soap bar... is it that bad? what are the usual street prices for good bud(so i can avoid getting ripped off)

Thanks in advance for your help!

I only know that the cost of living went up £56 pounds a month this year and thats not including some stuff like food. Save your money and clone your best female out of a packet of regular seeds, I'm sure others will tell you the same, its a much better, more sophisticated way to grow.

EDIT woops! and welcome fellow stoner friend

I pay about 8.7p per kW after I use a certain amount, before that I pay 13p per kW.

There are indeed head shops/seedbands around everywhere, try yell.com, although uk420 shop is the only place I buy my seeds from.

Oh Yes, most of the hash sold here is soapbar and it is shit, although its possible to get good stuff depending on who you know, but rare. Soapbar costs about £40 a OZ, where as you can pay about £120-£180 1oz of weed.

Hi Louis welcome aboard mate. Finding a job in manchester or liverpool shouldnt be to difficult for you. Theyre big cities with loads of nightlife. Finding a job in a bar or club might suit ya. Itd be a good way of meeting people, if not you should easily be able to get an office job if you can handle the prospect of that!with an employment agency. There must be loads of em in Man and Liv. At least you wont have any languge barriers wink.gif Either of them would tie you over till you found something more to your liking. Its quite expensive in england but even on minimum wage you can still survive. ph34r.gif just.
Regarding soap if you value your health stay well clear. The Uk420store comes highly recommended for your seeds and tings but if you have to buy them in person google headshops in them cities.

This is great ! This forum seems like a good place to be!I hope i can bring something good to this community.

Iam getting more and more excited to get to the uk! Iam sure its gonna be a good experience for me!
Iam a little nervous, its gonna be a culture shock but at the same time I know that being stuck on my own will make me progress more in life then staying here in my usual little town...

Has anyone ever tried extracting the good stuff from the soapbar with iso? Seems like it could be worth a try..

On a side note, how is the curry mile(heard alot about it, one of the reasons i want to go to manchester!) Can i hope to find work there? biggrin.gif

Thanks again guys! It great to get a positive vibe like this!

Welcome to the site dude. You'll love England - Canadians are the most English-like people I know, so you'll fit in fine. cheers.gif

No point in iso-washing soapbar as you'll get about 1g out of 1oz doh.gif

welcome to uk420 louis! guitar.gif

the curry mile is like the middle east in ur back yard, if u like that kind of thing. off the top of my head, there must be 30/40 indian/arab/lebanese/kurdish take aways and restaurants. im surprised uve heard of it from all the way in canada. when u get here, i can post u a map on here dude. i always thought canada would be better to live in than here, but the grass always looks greener on the other side.

not being funny mate, but i'd move to manchester if i was you, cuz liverpool is a bit behind times, with lifestyles and attitudes. plus u wont understand a word they're sayin. ur choice anyways. plenty of places to live mate. are you coming over permanent or on a temporary visa?
louis123
Well ive met a couple of english man while traveling across canada. And thats how I heard about the curry mile... I love that kind of food and I worked for sometime as a cook in a thai/asian restaurant...

I was granted a 2 years traveler visa for young people (iam only 19)

Canada is a nice place to live! But its gonna be a nice challenge for me to go to England. It will help my english get better aswell (iam french canadian... unsure.gif ) I also like the english culture, alot of history behind it, and ill get to know more and understand more by living there!

My main goal is to have a green xmas biggrin.gif, so i have no time to waste once i get there! But whats life without challenges!!

Salut le gar! Tabernac` et tout ca. doh.gif

O.K. better stop now, I was in Montreal for a while, had some friends there, back a few years.

Was in St Lambert/ Longueuil. Fun place! But yeah, Cold in winter, hot in summer, extreme! Months and months of snow.

There are four countries here. Scotland, Ireland, England and Wales. They are all a bit different, Wales is the one that seperates the irish and english . Then there is Sotland... 13.gif whistling.gif

But osti welcome, and best wishes.

Liverpool is the European City of Culture!

I used to live in Warrington (right in between Liverpool and Manchester) and although it is a bit of a shithole it is a lot cheaper than living in the cities and is only 21 miles away from both, a fiver on the train, there are quite a few pubs and clubs there and it definately more up and coming than it used to be.

Louis,

save yourself while you still have a chance, and steer clear of the UK.

Emmigration of Britons is at an all time high.

The food sucks, the weather sucks, the lack of proper hash sucks, British Gas suck, landlords suck, not being able to protest on British soil against the government sucks (look up info on Brian Haw to see how this government treats dissenters. They're put laws into place to try to prevent him (and anyone else) from protesting against the illegal invasion of Iraq), inept local politicians suck, inept central government politicans suck, not being able to smoke inside a pub sucks (what is it? A health club or something?), getting ripped off when you buy anything sucks, binge drinking sucks, and our TV is truly woeful.

On the plus side, if you visit Scotland, you'll be able to sample some proper Irn-Bru, reputed to be able to cure all known hangovers, owing to it's secret ingredient of melted iron girders.

Food is lush here if you can afford/be bothered to shop for local produce, go to a pub for lunch or make it yourself. ph34r.gif pinch.gif thats all I got, maybe the political climate is a good thing, get involved, thats it i'm dry, well um, we have some good documentary's on T.V our beaches and countryside, be happy your not in Iraq, or any other Muslim country. is 50/50 isnt it, swings......
louis123
Shadydave:

its quite similar here wink1.gif
we have a conservative goverment that goes agaisnt what people thinks!(they support isreal when 3/4 of the country thinks peace should be made in the middle east 34.gif )
People are more and more towards a need to work society ,work to have money for the car and house to have a place to sleep after work and have a car to get to work... (you live to work and work to survive)
weather is cold in winter and too hot in summer... people are getting arrested because of the us war on drugs (emery, og and their seedbank in my hometown... pinch.gif ) You cant trust anyone, and rare are the people willing to help one in need...
We might have good hash, but shit like meth is killing alot of people from the inside.... sad.gif

Iam gonna be happy to see unknown lands and smoke weed... thats all I need stoned.gif

Nitramkram, Hi, ive met a few australians in my travel, all nice people and the women seems to be hot hot hot!!!! one thing i learn from these guys is that veggie mite is great for hangovers cool.gif ! ill will check the shop 4 sure!! Thanks!

I wouldn't want to put you off, Louis.

When you get your first taste of shitbar, you'll wonder why British people put up with it.

Yeah, I'll have to concur, thats becoming more and more endemic in British society, and it never used to be so.

I think that most people who've been in the game for a while tend to develop a network of peeps who they trust, and outside of that network, you just don't trust anyone. Personally, it really takes years and years of knowing someone for me to trust them.

Owing to unfortunate circumsances earlier in the year, I found myself in the position of having absolutely no plants growing at all, for the first time in years.

On the day I was going to get some more seeds, an old friend, the guy who originally got me into growing as a mater of fact, turned up at my door with three good, rooted cuttings for me. I hadn't seen him for years and years, but, because we have an implicit trust built up over the years, he had no hesitation in helping out with a few cuttings, as other good, good friends (some might be reading this) have also done over the years.

Cripes, I gotta get some sleep, the little clock in the corner says 5:12AM.

Enjoy your stay Louis when you arrive.

(I'm not sure if you can get vegemite here. It's generally Marmite people eat)

Hello!

If you are still interested in what jobs are out there in L'pool or Manc' (or anywhere else in the UK) try the JobcentrePlus Website. Its free and relativly easy to use. Some jobs you will be able to 'Apply direct' from, other will involve phoning in to get info, but at least you can see what is out there.

Goodluck

I know this is only a small example of this problem, but it is indicative of how bad things are here;

My friends persuaded me recently to go to a music festival at Reading, which meant camping.
I told them I was not keen, being in a wheelchair I cannot look after myself, I can't put a tent up on my own.

My friends assured me that other campers would be very helpful, everyone is very friendly and it's like a little community, etc etc.
I still had my doubts, after 14 years in a wheelchair, I know how helpful our society really is.

I bought my tent, and with the help of my neighbour it took only 15 mins to erect on my back lawn, perfect.

Got on site at Reading with my friend Carol, we struggled for over 4 hours with my tent (ground conditions were bad), but did anyone else come to our aid?

Did they bollox.

I am now looking for a tent that I can totally handle on my own in my chair, because I KNOW I cannot expect any help from Joe Public in this country (england).
