Hi people!
I have got my grow number 2 on the go. My first one was quite a success even though one of my plants didn't bud properly due to lack of light (Ithink).
Basically the one which I thought would be the poorer of the 2 took over my cupboard and blocked the light from the other plant. I have dried and weighed the bud now and the successful one yielded just over 5 oz's. I am an extremely happy chappy to say the least cos the product is absolutely mind blowing. It was ppp from Nirvana which I got from a friend. The other one yielded only about a half oz and it wasn't very good at all, mainly leaf and hair with not much bud and not much sign of THC. Ironically this was an expensive seed from Dutch Passion (fem powereplant).
Grow no 2 I have 2 DP Powerplant seeds on the go. About 3 weeks old now and about 10 inches looking fairly healthy although there's some nutrient disorder going on.
What is the best method to stop what happened previously. I'm growing in a NFT tank 205 under 250W HPS. Can I Scrog from seed and if so when do I put the net up.
What's topping? How and when should I do this if at all? Also what about other methods of training and pruning could help.
Basically I want to know whether to just leave em and hope for the best like last time or top/prune/train/scrog!?!?!!
My cupboard is about 70cm by 90cm and about 1.8m high.
Any help or advice is appreciated,
cheers folks!

Hi RM...
The only advice I can give is don't use a net until you are 100% sure of the sex of your plants... ScrOGing is usually done using clones/cuttings to ensure 100% fem and all plants would have the same properties... Height etc..
I'll try and find you the links to a couple of documents which have given me some ideas..
ps. 5oz from one plant! (I'm on my first grow now - just installed a screen & using a 250W) I hope I get something like that!

Hello RM,
I used to use a 250 W HPS and the most important thing to remember is that you only have 20 inches (from the bulb) of great flowering light.. I would do anything to get the buds in that sweet spot, from scrogging four plants (always clones) in large pots to sogging 16 plants in a 2 foot square footprint and stadiuming them. And cool the light in any way you find possible and practical
From seed I don't usually top because I like to see the shape of the plant once in it's life time, though I have been know to tie the main cola down for a while to allow the side branches to catch up or to supercrop to get a nice even level of buds. How about getting some horticulture wire, the green stuff from garden centres, using that stuff you can arrange the plant as you wish and bend it into any shape that seems reasonable, won't win any beauty contests but will give an even canopy of buds if you tweak your wiring during 12/12 stretch and solves the problem of a male or hermie being cut out of your screen (not fun, believe me).
Think of it as an internal, self contained scrog, just remembered, securing the wires to something solid down below is a good idea.

Cheers people,
So is scrog out of the question because I am growing from seed then?
The trouble with bending the plants too much is that because I am growing in cubes, they are not that stable. I suppose I'll have to find a way of making the whole plant stable before bending it.
So as soon as I'm certain that they're both female should I start training the plants or should I just start now as long as I don't use a net?
I definitely think it was pure luck getting such a big yield from that one plant last grow. It just took over the whole cupbard and was even goin above the light at the top. I'm even finding the shit too strong to smoke in the week now. I can never get up for work.
Anyway, cheers for the advice,
R.M.
Before switching to 12/12 take some clones and label which plant each clone came from, if a plant shows male or hermie then discard it's clone(s) as well, the left over clone(s) from your best plant(s) then become the mothers for your next grow.

Iv seen piks where supercropping and tieing can have the same effect as scrog. Some ppl Snip the primary stem so the plant diverts main growth to the secondary wich makes the lower braches grow faster giving your plant a much bushier stature hence more light to more of the plant, the other method iv seen wich looks good is FIM pruning, where u cut a bud off just above the base, giving it the oppurtunity to grow into upto 8 buds(so iv heard), these methods are good if you dont have the resources to take clones and sex them under 12/12(like me) as it will be harder sexing and removing plants from a scrog grow, but im new to this and have never tried these techniques myself, there is good info on em in the overgrow faqs. And good luck with your grow..
