Hi people

I'm thinking of having a SOG starting in September. The goal is to harvest 8 plants per week, and grow organically. These clones would have only 1 week rooting in a jiffy cube before going into flowering.

I've been told it's possible to grow organically with coco, and i'm interested in knowing it. If that's the case, then i have to adopt a drip system.

Right now i'm thinking of having a simple irrigation setup, with gravity feeding using 10mm tubes. One reservoir for each 8 plants, no pump needed. Each time i want to feed the plants, i mix the nutrients and put the solution in the reservoir. I don't know if having a drip system is compatible with bio nutrients, because they have to be used 24 hours after mixing.

Lighting will be provided by 1x 400w metal halide and 1x 400w hps system. These will cover an area of 2,40x1,20 meters, which is higher than the 2x1 recommended for 800w, but the plants in the corners will be in the last weeks of flowering, and need less light.

Any opinions on this?
Will i gain in using coco and drip system instead of feeding tubes and potting soil?

The attachments show the scheme.

How confusing. cry.gif
I wouldn't worry too much about where they are Etc.
Why not have the trays going left to right.

I would still use 2x400w HPS lamps, & not bother with the MH lamp. ph34r.gif
I wouldn't use the MH lamps when you’re only growing on 2 lights.
If you’re using 6-10 HPS lamps it might be worth throwing in another light, be it MH.

Good Luck.

Way too high-tech for me to grasp I'm afraid eek.gif
One comment: With a drip feed system like that you may end up with permanently moist compost or coir, a recipe for root-rot I would have thought. Cannabis likes its compost to go thru a wet/dry cycle, which is why most of us compost junkies end up watering by hand to ensure a true Flood & Drain routine as and when each plant needs it.
Another thought: I find Cannabis prefers water that has stood at room temp for 24 hours to let chlorine and other gasses escape, and then bubbled for a while to oxygenate. This may not sit too well with your dripper system?

The drip system was just an idea, i actually prefer the feeder tubes as i feel i have more control over watering.
How well does coco hold water? I need to water every day right.
What about coco slabs, have you used them?

smile.gif about the light distribution, i was just trying to find a way to use more light.
But left to right tables seems a better idea, more easy to manage... it would be easier with slabs though.

You won't need to water them every day, take arnold's advice on this one - only water them when the soil is nigh on bone dry.

Yeah and let the water stand for at least 30 mins b4 you apply it to the plant, I was also advised on this as arnold said this is to let the chlorine etc escape from the water - I find that a good whisking with a fork in the water b4 it's applied to the plants helps.

Good luck mate, your drawings were pretty cool (but they did confuse the hell outta me though!)

Mick.
