ok so I went and invested in a humidifier which works great only problem is I cant be there to turn it on and off
is there any way I can rig it up to a hygrostat and a relay so it switches on when RH is too low and off when it reaches 60%

you tried maplins etc?
i think, if i've got it right... the ambient RH is up during the day to 60ish% (especially since the weather has got warm) and down to 30%ish at night. measure it for yourself if you have a hygrometer and see when the humidifier is best needed (day and/or night) and use a simple timer on the humidifier. that might do the trick?
is your humidifier adjustable? i leave mine on a low setting all the time (partly due to avoid fillin it up all the time...)
i think rh of 60%-80% is ok durin veggin (might be wrong though)
