I am currently growing five hollands hope in a small growroom used to strengthen the plants up before I transplant them to a guerilla site. They sprouted just over a week ago are peacefully growing in some peat pots. The real action begins in a few weeks

Here is just a quick photo to give you an idea of whats going on.

Hi greenlungs, if you can raise all the peat pots up on something like a block to get them nearer the light they won't stretch as much and they'll get a better start as long as you don't raise them too much and burn them. Good going with the wee sticks and ties, they'll help but that's what I'd try and do, get them a bit closer to the light if you can

You can see something on one of the leaves in the first pic, it kind of looks like it died, does anybody have any ideas what it might be?

Will i have to switch to 12/12 before i can sex them? I would really like to get that done before i take them out, saves me the risk of contamination.

you germinated on the 12th may so the plants are only about 18 days old?
i think youd have to wait till theyre older to sex them by 12/12

Ok sorted, i will wait an extra week then switch to 12/12 for 3 days, then back to 18/6 again until they show sex. Then
DESTROY the males and put the females outdoors at my guerilla site.
They are doing fine btw, not much diffrence so i wont post a pic. thanks for the support to everyone again.

My plants are getting too tall for my GR!!! They are looking a little skimpy as well, in otherwords they are tall and not bushy. I want to stop them from growing upwards to be honest and make them bush up (anybody have any ideas or thoughts on this?), but then i still would really like to sex them indoors, if worst comes to worst i would be prapered to stick them in the grow site without sexing first. This is quite urgent as the tallest of the 5 is begining to burn
cheers

u could try FIMMING them, or topping them? i just tried to fim 2 of mine, dunno how it went yet just gotta wait and see. otherwise give them more light that should make them bush out more as it will make smaller internodes and encourage more side branching

Well this weekend has been a busy one indeed, i gave up on the grow room and decided to stick them outside on saturday. I took a few pics two days before they went out but forgot to bring a camera along with me to the guerilla site. I will be returning very soon if it doesent rain to give them some water and i will take a camera with me then.
[attachmentid=78774] this is the burn that forced me to move them
[attachmentid=78775] this gives you an idea of the size (12.5 gram pouch of tobbaco btw)

More pics...
[attachmentid=78776] i was having a smoke outside with them while they were waiting to go guerilla and i showed them their destiny.
[attachmentid=78777] Healthy looking leaves
[attachmentid=78778] Quick job on the slug protection, stripped copper wiring and coiled it at the base, this should do the job.

The plants took a beating when they were moved to guerilla so i kept the sticks and ties on to help them regain their strength. I will remove them when i next visit them. I gave them a good watering before waving goodbye to them...i hope their doing well

hey man, they definately need more light, thats why they r so tall ad thin, also if u watch fatmanbobs video on slugs bein repelled by copper tape, i think that the copper u got under them wont be enough to repel slugs....u see why if u watch the video....sorry to be so negative
green_lungs06
Jun 5 2006, 05:18 PM
I have seen the vid, best idea ever. But i reckon that the slug wont be able to cope with the copper long enough to munch my plants. I hope so anyway...im all paranoid now!
They are looking pretty stretched, but i reckon if you keep them propped up with those canes until the stems thicken up they should be fine.

If your going for the copper wire round the stem route, you really should add some more, take it a good 2inches up the stem.

already done this FMB

look at this as experience . I did much the same thing a few years back. Next time round you can 'veg them for longer and make sure they are nice and strong before planting out. I have a few 3 foot sativas still waiting to go, but I know they will take whatever comes their way a lot better than my prevoius attempt
Havong said that, the weather and lack of rain this year might kill a fair few anyway.

good luck scoring the lowryders. many places are out. it's gonna be a dwarf grow explosion this summer

Returned to the site this morning for watering and general inspection, this time i rememberd a camera, the quality of the photos arent very good but you get the general idea...
The same two survivors are alive but one isent looking good and i have left alone after a good watering because i dident want to disturb it...tried to take photos of it but camera is shit.
[attachmentid=80379] This is the top of the plant, i think its called "the main khola" or something similar...these leaves are very healthy indeed and have that hollands hope colour to them.
[attachmentid=80380] As you can see all the leaves apart from the above mentioned ones on the best of the two plants seem to be wilting and changing colour...should i be looking at nutrient problems...any ideas?
[attachmentid=80381]
Took fatmanbob's advice and cut me a plastic soft drinks botal to wrap proper coper tape around it...i have also put a small strip loosely around the base of the actual plant just incase one of those assholes manage to ninja rope inside

i saw the tape in action almost straight away right in front of my eye's and it worked so its looking good...thanks FMB

You should clear the plot buddy get em stinging nettles out the way.
And grow em for a month or two before planting outside. Are those leaves yellow, try some blood fish and bone.
What soil u using. I mixed mp compost at the bottom middle and top of my holes, and look at my plants now....
Weve had awsome weather in wales, so good luck...

If you want my 2p, i'd bury that stem. It's highly unlikely it'll ever be able to support its own weight as its really badly stretched
If you remove the cane and wind up the stem into a loop and then pack compost around it leaving around and inch or two above the soil it should be able to support itself. Any stem that you bury will grow roots in a week or two so it won't be wasted. Then put the plastic bottle back around it to keep it safe. And as archangel said, clear out all the vegetation around it.
Good luck whatever you decide to do.
green_lungs06
Jun 17 2006, 05:04 PM
I think i will give that a go if things are no better by my next visit, however i want to keep the nettles around it because it keeps it out of sight...removing them might put it at risk. Probably not but i wouldent feel safe otherwise.
Thanks

So does anyone have any ideas as to why all the other leaves apart from the top set are dying?
I was thinking maybe root damge during the transplant...

Jun 17 2006, 07:58 PM
Thats what happens first the bottom. As long as the top is still green itll grow.
My guess is that hes using shite soil....

hia! have they got much worse? i reakon a light tonic might be a good thing something like a bit of seaweed, i also think that berrying the stems is a great idea will give a lot more stability! good luck, x

Im not using any soil, i started with your everyday compost indoors then planted them in the ground near stinging nettles

Thats pobably it.
U wanna mix in multi purpose compost with normal soil.
Worked for me.
Mr. Weasel
Jun 18 2006, 03:24 PM
Looks like a nitrogen deficiency from those photos. If you've planted them directly into the local soil with no compost or fertilisation, then it's most likely the soil will be lacking in minerals, particularly if you're planting near nettles as they tend to suck a lot of nitrogen from the soil.
As grogirl said, use some seaweed extract fertiliser, i use Maxicrop, it's Soil Association certified so it's kind to the environment, and it works which is most important
