hi everyone,i have a 400w maxibright compact ballast which seems to be running too hot.the leccy just blipped, everything went off then on again in the house, tripping the isolator to the g/room(plug in style isolator).went in the g/room,had check round, nothing wet/exposed ect but i noticed that the lighting ballast was to hot to hold(its screwed to the wall).so is this normal?should it get so hot?.im on day 45,and the last thing i need to do is replace a 3month old ballast!.gonna let everything cool right down and reset the isolator, turning everything in the g/room on,then see if it cuts the leccy again.any help would go down a treat here!.all the best.edozric

Does the ballast have an inbuilt fan? If yes, is it working?
The ballast should not get to hot to hold by hand and if it does I would take it back from whence it came as even mounted on the wall its going to "scorch" the wall if it getting that hot.
Threaten to name and shame them if you get no joy.
Good luck

just off the top of my head, one of my ballasts is too hot to hold for more than about 10 secs.
make sure you've a fire alarm in your gr.
i doubt your ballast tripped the electric - more likely the other way round.
some ballasts run hotter than others - you could take it back and swap it for a different make.
