I've often thought growing Shiitake mushrooms could be very profitable. That's just a pie in the sky idea but they are mushrooms after all.Supply the restaurant industry,no?They are considered a delicacy and are expensive.Just an idea, probably grow like truffles or up trees something. wink.gif

Hydro leb cucumbers and tomatos work for a mate of mine, youd be suprised what you get for well grown roma tomatos. too much crap around these days under done marked fruit at the stores.

How about Baby lettuce you would need a pretty big NFT grow, they grow in as little as 7 days to the size Mcdonalds and supermarkets want for there premix salad Bags. so a continual grow 75% of the year more if you suplement lighting with a few HID

Id think there is already heaps of green house grows in the UK but here its sort of new most people do ok with the soil they have and rely on rain. But the grower that invest in drip fed irrigation and use hydro like soil do have a market to sell A grade Produce.

I bet your looking for a money tree didnt your mum tell you there was no such thing? Proved her wrong years ago.

Very nice Orchid Kyphi alot of mine didnt flower this year do you know what triggers flowering other than the temp drop do light hours have anything to do with and will strong light stop flowering. My granny had a orchid that flowered in a fork of a tree It hadnt flowered for twelve years then suddenly one night during a full moon ant midnight she opend up and closed all within 15minutes. I was too young to understand but since we found it quite rare and only flowers once every 10 to 15 years. .

Cya later.

you buy plugs a bit like dowels and insert them into logs then leave them in a shady damp environment, more or less, kits are avaliable on internet

Hi guyz,

Cheers Bish, I remember seeing safron growing in the carribean, it grew wild in some cases like weed, i'll look into the space it needs. Not sure atm though as 75,000 flowers for 1 pound seems a little much, at this stage, perhaps they can be manipulated , topped and grown excessively large?

Thx, dr rockster i will look into it, and see if any restaurants in the area may look to buy something like that, i remember something on tv about growing rare profitable mushrooms some dude bought a 7,500 acre plot to grow em in France.

Thx, Kyphi and Snap i was thinking of something in orchids, that 10-15yrs orchid looks like it may be a little slow but it sounds awesome. I hear some orchids can be sold for near £20 so im extremely interested here, I'll also give the veg idea a look but i dont know who'll buy them, perhaps restraunts? i dunno.

Thx, guyz quick response and good suggestions, this boards awesome.

Herbs generally do well. Mint and Rosemary grow like mad and they're real easy to root once you've taken cuttings. Fast-growing, hardy plants that everyone needs for a bit of home-cooking.

I was looking into growing Blueberry's , for personal consumption only .

For commercial production I reckon they'ed be good coz they're quite pricey, £3 for a small punnet .
