Full Version: Cannabis And The Body

Hi there,

I'm really into my chemistry and biology. And of course I love the herb. I really want to study the biochemical processes, interactions and reactions that occur when cannabis is smoked or ingested. Where in the body these processes occur, what chemicals are released and inhibited, how each part of the body is affected and why. And so on.

Is it a case of there not being a good source of info because of the lack of research? The closest thing to what I'm looking for, that I have ever seen, came across as very anti-drugs, an it was written at a level that young teenagers could understand... therefore it wasn't very good for someone who's studied science to A-level.

Do it do it!!

I think you'll find theres been extensive research done but the majority of it has been distorted, twisted and made up by profit hungry petrochemical companies or agents thereof, due to government requirements.

Ive read more than enough to know that theres more lies than facts 'taught' to us.

Best luck to ya, i gotta class to 'teach'

Peace,Love & broken promises...

Start with The Science Of Marijuana - by Leslie L Iversen. It's recent, professional and easy to understand. Avail on amazon i think - or check your library.

Actually, cannabis interaction has been widely studied, but because different plants produce different effects, test results have often been confused. Recent understanding of strains and the genetics of cannabis should pave the way for standerdised research which can't be denied by those that don't want to hear the results.

Search Wikpedia for cannabanoids. The links referenced at the bottom of the page lead to lots of free + good info.

Enjoy the research m8 - it's addictive

In which case you will be fascinated by 11-hydroxy-THC which is my fave of THC as it is the most psychoactive

I would recommend

Depends which type you smoke - dealer weed tends to do this as it's oxidised.

Oh, and of course there is Soft Secrets

Hiya DubScience,
I'm really interested like yourself in the biochemical science of cannabis.I mean, the endo-cannabiniod system particularly. It seems to have a parallel with the endorphin human system and I think we are just at the first stages of recognising the endo-cannabiniod system for what it is.

Fucking fascinating for starters! yinyang.gif

blushing.gif arrr .. fanks.

honestly... my brains all full of jargon from the national drug treatment agency - their waiting time and discharge guidelines are a hoot!!! If you see a splattered mess in the corner over the weekend, that'll be my brain exploding.. I dont think I can tek any more cap'n!!

I really enjoyed learning about how the body works, I learnt so much when I finally understood my childhood dx of fibrositis was a pile of made up bullshit and it was actually a hyerpmobility and fibromyalgia. Understanding muscles, limbs, ligaments and whats that stuff.. I aint got none in my knees.. damnnit. Begins with c......anyway, all that stuff. Then how the body chemically has a panic attack and gets you ready for fight and flight and how to bring yourself back down from it, and then figuring out WTF my hormones are up to..

Then understanding how food like carbs and protein affect your energy and how they supply the body, and the joy of understanding the blood tests can often mean absolitely bollox all - the first time I heard false positive and false negative terms was an eye opener!!

Then theres the weekend relaxing, watching history channel with mr daisy tryng to understand how atilla the hun gave the romans a hiding, and what makes a fight between a spitfire and a messerschmit one of the best dogfights known to man, and of course the obligitary understanding of why Dirty Harry insisted on a 45 Magnum over any other gun..

the idea of understanding how a plant with 60 active ingredients makes me feel better is tricky is one for another time. hopefully I can forget some stuff from the above list and make some room one day!

Hi,

Thanks for all the recommendations everyone. I'll be buying a couple of those books soon. The more expensive ones can wait until later!

Cheers
