I have been wondering how to put this and not bothered till now but my mum is in a lot of pain esp when she forgets to take her painkillers Naproxen 500mg. She doesn't like Cannabis but has never tried it either. So I was hopeing I could sway her bias opinion with the "you dont want to get hooked on opiate drugs do you" argument but I cant say that till I find out if she's on them and get a reliable source of pain killing cannabis that she likes and lets her do stuff. MISSION or what I can even grow properly yet and they dont want it in the house. She went to the doctor today to see if they can give her stronger pain killers but they told her to take paracetamol with her pain killers for now. She takes one more than she's ment to anyway. she has had two hip replacements in the same leg but its the other side which hurts. Hopefully if/when she gets the opp done soon she wont need strong pain killers but if she does i dont want her on opium drugs do I? are they really that bad? It frustriting cos I can do it for fun and she wont listen so I dont mention it anymore but all the while her hip is getting worse, she drinks every night and usually takes her evening pain killers with red wine so it would suit her lol.gif
If anyone has been in the same situation tell us what you did and what the consiquences of what you did were.
Have made the switch from prescibed pharmasuiticals to herbs? what are the best arguments for changing?

EDIT just had a look at some of the medical users on here, i dont think my mum is suffering as much as you guys, she should be ok after the opp when ever that is.

My Mum's had both knees and a hip replaced bless her - I can remember seeing her dancing at the Albert Hall when I was a kid.

She's on Tramadol - another synthetic opiod, and has oral Morphine for when she needs it, but rarely uses it cos she doesn't like how it makes her feel!

She doesn't like Cannabis but tolerates her sons smoking it cos it doesn't seem to have harmed us - and she knows it helps me with my pain. She wouldn't try it as pain relief though, well not smoking anyway... I'd have to ask her how she feels about eating it...

It's a difficult thing for her to come to terms with as she's a good, law-abiding lady and always has been. I don't think she'll ever use it unless it's made legal.

p.s. The Docs have told me to take Paracetamol with my Tramadol & Ibuprofen too, it's 'normal'. If it hurts, throw drugs at it. If it still hurts, throw some more, etc... standard practice unfortunately

Hi sorry about your mum. I am just starting to grow for pain relief and help to rest for my wife. My seed supplier reccomended Northern lights, white widow, grape fruit, ice , and cindy. (not all at the same time)!!!

He said different strains act different to every person so supplied me with small amount of each planted now and will be testing later all being well.

TRY to get your Mum to kick the booze With the Tablets. This same mix Killed my mother . She had 6 coproxamol and a couple of glasses of wine, The alcohol converted it to poison. Dad came home from work late shift and found her dead in the armchair soaking her feet . with tv on and an alsatian howling. the dog knew some thing was wrong.

Hope your mum has the relief she needs and the op soon

Sorry to hear about your mum mate

I think my mum likes her booze because I have already told her not to use it to swallow pills and she tells me the doc said its OK nea.gif I dont belive her now. She's gonna get some fairy cakes when I get back from A'dam with some old couch locking strain, I bet once she's tried it she'll want more ph34r.gif whistling.gif now all I have to do is succesfully smuggle it back without getting caught, doh.gif its either that or gurilla grow, gurilla harvest gurilla cure gurilla bake unsure.gif yinyang.gif

Sorry to hear about both yours and cyclops' mate... Age catches up on all of us I guess. I think the food way is definitely the best to persuade your mum - don't get er mashed though! And she's fibbing about the drink - no doctor would recommend it! In fact having drunk once on my meds - lost an evening and got arrested for the first time at 33 - I don't know why anyone would do it!!!

i sympathise with your position bab...my mum was ill for a long time before her death a couple of years ago, she's lucky to have a good son like you around to look out for her yinyang.gif

just a couple of points...

i think your mum is pulling the wool over your eyes when she says the doc has ok'd her taking her meds with booze i found this on a site about the drug your mum is taking ..

<<Naproxen may cause drowsiness, dizziness, or blurred vision. Alcohol may intensify these effects and increase the risk of accidental injury. Use of alcohol during naproxen therapy increases the risk of stomach irritation and bleeding. People taking naproxen should avoid alcohol.>>

...and dont forget to tell your mum if you give her a 'special ' fairy cake exactly what is in it .....i have seen some peopel have a very unpleasant time after eating cannabis unknowingly wink1.gif

ANY suffering is worthy of being relieved..

I feel obliged to point out a couple of things here:
No-one here, To my knowledge, is a Doctor so any advice given is purely anecdotal and should be treated with enormous amounts of caution.
Cannabis may help alleviate certain types of pain. For other types it has virtually no analgesic value whatsoever.
Cannabis can act both postively and negatively when mixed with other medicines. It generally but not always amplifies the effect of painkillers.
Used properly and that means no over-doing the prescribed dose, Opioid painkillers are a valuable and relatively safe form of pain control. I have been using Codeine and Pethidine for ten years now, and do not have any addiction or other probs to report.
Budass, I feel for your Mum, pain is a bummer - and I really hope that you can help her; but tread carefully, its all too easy to be well intentioned, but make mistakes.
