Full Version: New Growroom For My First Grow

Hi all,
I was planning to start my first grow a few weeks ago but had a few set backs. This weekend I'm gonna go for it with all guns blazing smile.gif

I've decided to build a growroom at the bottom of my 30ft garage smile.gif the room is going to be 10ft wide by 9 ft deep. I'm going to build a stud partition across the garage. Insulate all the floor ceiling and walls stick a UPVC Door and Window in and board and plaster all the wallls, if I sell my house it can then be used as a utility room or small office, theres still plenty of room in the garage to stick the car in and all the rest of the crap smile.gif I'm getting all the materials in today and tomorrow then i'm gonna get it done over the next 4-5 afternoons. Here are some pictures before I start I'll update as I go along. I'm also going to build a vegging enclosure so the light from the flowering won't affect it, also a cloning room.

If anyone has any tips or can see any problems, let me know

This is where it's gonna be smile.gif

Yeah Thanks, For vegging i'm just using a 200 Watt Envirolite but for flowering i'm using 2x400 Watt HPS I won't be using the whole area for growing and i'm only growing about 10 Plants. I have oredered Seeds from 2 sources so hopfully they will be here by the time iv'e finished then i'm all set.
I've ordered White Widow, White Rhino, Big Bud and Crystal smile.gif

Hi, Room is coming along nicely got all the electrics out of the way and started measuring and cutting the wood for the partition frame. Just need a quick bit of feedback on something if its ok

My carbon filter is pretty big and the air is gonne get sucked straight into the filter, i'm guessing this needs to be quite high up ??

Also I cant really have a fan bringing fresh air into the room, what i was going to do is cut a hole and cover with a vent cover then put the big fan on the floor in front of it blowing towards the plants, do you think this will draw enough fresh air in?

Basically do you think that set up for air in and out is ok, the extraction on the carbon filter is a 5" Ruck fan.

My grow diary for this grow is here btw

Tomorrow it will be all finished just got the wall to put up now and plaster the room smile.gif
Here's the room so far

you will want to put your carbon filter as high up as poss mate, to extract the hot air. have the intake opposite at the bottom for best airflow. wink1.gif
with 2x 400w hps, you will need a proper intake fan imo, sucking in cool fresh air or you will have temp problems.
I use a 5" ruck 'L' (more powerful) with cf, and a 5" ruck bringing air in. i only have 1 x 400w hps, but dont intake air from outside, and im battling with temps after putting mylar up.
Hope this helps wink1.gif

Yeah thanks,
I really can't have an intake fan in there though, don't know what i'm gonna do when summer comes sad.gif maybe gonna have to use a few free standing fans in there blowing on the lights and plants.

Quality building work mate,makes mine look very shoddy ,regarding air intake your gonna need it with out a dought,can you not pull it in by cutting a hole in the timber part of the back end of your garage.

Thanks mate, I cant really as my shed is directly behind the room and it's built against the garage wall, also I have put in so much insulation and the garage is thick concrete it would be quite hard to do now doh.gif

But I am cutting 3 9"x4" holes in the wall low down and covering with vent covers then I'll have 3 fans sat inside on the floor in front of the vents drawing air in, this is going to have to do for now.

As you can see the room is nearly done, just needs the ventilation fitting and the room painting smile.gif

Yes mate smile.gif

Apart from the air induction and extraction the room is pretty air tight. With the fans all on full and all lights on it is silent and no signs of light from the outside. I've even had friends in the garage who haven't even noticed the room at the back.

Also one plus is that the warm air being extracted into the garage warms the room up nicely smile.gif

I sincerely hope you get on top of the ventilation issues right from the start as thats about all thats going to shoot you in the foot AFAICS.

General rule of thumb is that for passive intakes you need 5x that which is available at exhaust. IE. If you have a 5 inch fan exhausting the grow room, you will need 5x 5 inch inlet vents if ventilation is to be achieved as efficiently as possible. Less intake is going to cause you massive arse-ache once the warmer weather comes and its a lot easier to deal with it now, than when you have plants depending on you doing it for their imminent survival.

All the very best with the grow. yinyang.gif

Thanks for the comments everyone. I would of just done a closet grow as the room is massive compared to the space im actually growing in but having young kids in the house I thought it best to keep it weel out of the way smile.gif Also the room can be used as a utillity room or somthing at a later date. smile.gif

Door is on and sealed airtight. No light can get out. Also extraction is now sorted fresh air from outside sucked in with 125mm fan into bottom of the room near plants and hot air extracted through carbon filter at opposite end of the room hung off ceiling

youll get your moneys worth out of it though, easy wink1.gif

err... your veg area is not enclosed, you cant veg/propogate while you have plants in flower if they are not sepperated as the flowering plants need 100% darkness

you could easily modify your setup though, just whack up some thick plastic sheeting around your veg area, cut some holes and attach some fans (you should only need pc case fans) and build a light baffler around them. then you can start your next crop while the other is still growing smile.gif

thats if u want to though wink1.gif

edit:

very nice grow room by the way cool.gif

Hi mate, the temps are really stable in the flowering area 25-28 lights on and 20-22 lights off and the weather outside doesn't seem to affect it as the room is really insulated.

Moved the temp/hygrometer into the vegging closet so I can keep an eye on the humidity smile.gif

just been in having a clean and a tidy up, re arranged things too so i've got more room to get around the plants now smile.gif

New 600 Watt digital, was a bit of a bugger to get it up but used bungees to wrap round it then hung it from them
[attachmentid=105894]

All my nutes and other bits out of the way
[attachmentid=105896]

Oscillating fan and a spare lamp, out of the way of any spills, the 400 watt ballasts are up there too
[attachmentid=105898]

Two turbo fans blowing a gale at the other end of the room
[attachmentid=105899]
Pulse
As soon as my current grow is out of the way my growroom is getting a makeover smile.gif Instead of my wooden vegging box I'm going to rip it out and extend the flowering area so it stretches across the whole room and get myself a tent for vegging in, I'm also going to add a Mh to my flowering area and grow under 2x600Watt Digital and 1x400Watt Hps

Also the room is getting disinfected and nuked with a smoke bomb as i've had a few probs with my last grow, pics coming in a few weeks smile.gif
