Full Version: Using One Gigantic Pot

hello, i was thinking, to maximise the amount of compost i can give to the plants, would it be feasable to just have one massive pot for them all? unsure.gif

What i am proposing is to get a 50 litre tub, which fits perfectly in my room and drill drainage holes in the bottom. Then transplant the plants in a few days before flower. This would allow for much more compost, much more root space and therefore better nutrient uptake to the plants. cool.gif
Also it would do away with the need for loads of saucers and fannying about when watering, as i could make a base from the lid to drain water to. guitar.gif
Does anybody think this will work? has anybody done it before? guitar.gif

Thanks guys,

No reason why not - only problem is that once it's in there full of plants and compost, unless you're the incredible hulk that's where they stay if you get any problems whistling.gif

Also if you have different strains that need more or less nutes etc than the others then you're screwed.

You could do that with a load of smaller pots too. wink1.gif
Just stand them on a layer of capillary matting in a single tray and the matting will equalise the water content of each rootball. yinyang.gif

i do it the same way as vrg suggest's, but if you want to do huge container's you just have to be careful that the soil doesn't become waterlogged and anorobic. im not sure if he still does, but soma used to use big containers aswell, he had some articles in red-eye explaining what you needed to do, it's probably on the net somewhere sirbob... thumbsup.gif

cheers Sr, what i plan on doing i having the plants in their usual pots, then repotting them into the big tub, so they dont have a huge jump in soil amount. hopefully if i drill enough holes in the bottom and make sure the soil gets fairly dry then i can keep it healthy wit some soil secrets. smile.gif

Ive found the red eye webiste, but i cant download any magazines yet, "coming soon" 34.gif

Noam
i read an article in one of the mags and the guy had them in mfo boxes (ex squaddie, rectangle 3x2) on wheelie casters so that he could move them around easily. i think he lined them with plastic/something and he grew loads in each container. the only downer that the article mentioned and has been mentioned here, is that if root rot (i don't really know what it is, but i can guess) gets in all your peas are f*$ked pinch.gif but the guy who grew this way wasn't growing for pers wink.gif
best of luck with all your grows lawless, you write some da posts and your smoke looks fine wink1.gif

i grown in 25ltr pot wiv2ak clones to a pot wiv no trouble at all wink1.gif (only two pots mind)
put in layers of hydroton pebs or perlite, say 1" maybe more thick, one or two of em (i used1 but my tub was half size), was trying to prevent waterloggin.
i'm gonna give them hydroton a go in the smaller 16Ltr pots i got, gonna put a 2cm layer in the JI.
Will the air in there be ok?
will there be some air exchange?
sorry to highjack your thread mate but its interestin wink1.gif
