Backfill it with hardcore and concrete first. Then lay grass on topof it.

Why all this with the container. Excavate a hole, waterproof it with a membrane, build a wall to support the sides, then build a roof supported by steel and lay grass tarmac or whatever you want on top of it. If you've got the land, no one needs to know only you and your nearest and dearest. No need for a container. Think of a swimming pool with a grass roof, if you know what I mean.

because you could dig out for and cover a container in a day

containers are cheap as chips , where as dpm /steel framing / roofing etc isnt

Yeah, BUT the whole point is the actual logistics of getting a container to the property and then getting it in the hole. You'd need a friendly crane driver, that's gonna be the weak link. Unless you can devise a way of getting the container in the hole by yourself (unless you have own crane) you are fucked really.
you wouldnt need a crane to put it into the hole , hire a mini digger and drag it ! could even dig your own hole then. re people thinking its dodgy ........... until you know something about growing weed all the 'signs' dont actually ring bells

Drag it into the hole with mini digger? Don't think that would work mate.
yeah, just get some planks underneath it so that the small wheels on the contain can roll and then drag it with a digger or a couple of 4x4's or a tractor.
the eygyptians built the pyramids withsout cranes, i am sure theres ways of getting a big container into a hole without using one also.

This container idea sounds sick, and once its in place no one would notice it. But whilst youre putting it in there would be alot of people noticing, and all the mud youd dig out would have to got rid of by a fair few skips.

I've just been looking at it on the net, the main dude got 18 years and the whole thing got burnt out in the end.
The growing operation was complete with an irrigation system to water the 400 - 500 plants that were between 6 and 12 inches tall and the 400 - 500 additional plants that were as tall as 6 feet. To power the sophisticated lighting and climate control system that kept the caves temperature at 87 degrees the men had illegally spliced into county power lines. Investigators estimate that the operation could produce as much as 6 to 8 million dollars worth of marijuana per year. Three men have been arrested in connection with the growing operation. Brian Gibson and Greg Compton were arrested in Tennessee and Fred Earl Strunk, thought to be the mastermind behind the operation, was arrested at his home in Gainesville Florida on December 14, 2005. Struck, whose real identity unknown, is said to have at least 6 identifications with various names in his home along with 50,000 in cash. Strunk was being held on a 15 million dollar bond which was reduced to 1 million dollars in January 2006 by General Sessions Judge Kenny Linville with the provision he provide a high school or college yearbook with his photo or a military id to prove is identity.
HARTSVILLE - A fire that destroyed a cave in Trousdale County that was once the site of a massive marijuana-growing operation was suspected to be arson upon preliminary investigations.
The fire consumed the cave and the house above it on Dixon Creek Road near Hartsville. Another empty house about a half a mile away was also burned at the same time.
Brian Gibson and Greg Compton are asking to be released on bond. Investigators say they helped run a drug cave which turned out to be one of the state's biggest drug operations. Gibson and Compton are accused of growing more than 800 marijuana plants. The mastermind of the operation, Fred Strunk, cut a deal last month to avoid trial. Strunk received an 18-year sentence.

Another thing with the container idea, if anyone was going to try it, is that you will need planning permission, which ant the best thing for stealth..
I read about a guy in Contract Journal newspaper who wanted to build a super shed with a basement! ( Sounds like a grower to me

)
He spent 50,000 pounds on the project and was then told he couldnt do it, Somthing to do with worries about neighbouring houses being effected due to there being a big hole in the ground ( dont know how to explain that in words, do you get my point?

)
An Idea I pondered with in a stoned chat with some growers was building a swimmingpool, a proper concreate one in the ground, then laying a roof over it witha couple of ft of soil ontop. This would be reasonably un-detected ( if no one sees you build it,

) and also would prevent any fears of a chopper with infra red seeing your lights.. u just gota worrie about the extractors heat. What do you guys think?

It's idiots like this that give me the temptation to use my nans bomb shelter in her back yard.
If i had the knowledge or even the money to generate such a huge farm, i'd of used generators as fuel is a hell of alot cheaper over there...
How many people would it take to run that? - i personally wouldnt have the balls big enough to leave my house knowing that was underneath me..
(i'm off to buy a shovel n spade n some panels, who wants to chip in?

See thats where you loose track of the moral of this place which is to ditch the dealer, not become one.
I think the container idea is great, and as long as its done safely, on your own land away from other building, then i wouldnt be telling the planning authority i was going to do it.
i have enough family members in the contruction business to get use of the nessecary machinery, ( a bobcat and a crane ) and as long as nothing looks fishy and the area cant be seen from the open road, then no one would have a clue what i was up to.

i think someone in cornwall did just that and got busted. the copper chopper spotted the exhaust outlet poking from the ground supposedly as it spewed hot air out of the ground. imo if it was to be completley stealthy, aircon and co2 injection would be the way for me

Exactly what I said!
its the building of anything like this that will get you caught!! you can have a hole dug / container dragged in and filled over in a day

try building a swimming pool with a roof in a day

woulsd take weeks/months and tonnes of steel re bar/concrete etc etc . and when someone asks why youre buiding a tracy island what you going to say?
