Hiya, OK my 2 RVK250's arrived today, just gave them a test run to make sure they are working, and FOOK ME the noise 34.gif Its like concorde warming up. pinch.gif

Been searching on here for the last 1/2 hour, reading that ducting cuts down the noise, but the threads I've read are all relating to TD160's and smaller RVK's.

So anyone using RVK250's, please tell me that the noise is reduced drastically, cause I'm gonna have these big buggers running 24/7 in the bedroom. I've already ordered my ducting, its the aluminium type, but not labelled accoustic. (£21 inc postage for 10 meters if anyones interested thumbsup.gif )

Cheers.

Sono ducting? Whats that then? Just searched for it, and the only thread that mentions it is this one 34.gif

I can't afford any more ducting, I'm stuck with what I ordered, so will this make a difference to it?
Cheers.

I run 1 200 inlet and a 300 extraction.
when you fire them up unattached to anything the noise is pritty frighteneing.
The ducting will quiet them down conciderably, the accoustic ducting is better than the standard.
Accoustic ducting has a sleve wraped arround it filled with a fibreglass. its a bit more expensive than the standard but it is well worth it IMHO.If cost is an issue just get a couple of meters and put a meter of it either side of the fan.
I also run mine on a speed controller so they arnt running at full speed especially this time of year. This also helps.
There are quite a few diffrent ways to quiet them down.

Good luck mate

Thats great. Cheers for that Murran thumbsup.gif

I'll see how they are when the ducting is attached, and then if its unbearable I'll get some of the accoustic stuff.

Many thanks for your reply wink.gif

Ahah, so sono ducting IS accoustic ducting. 34.gif
Cheers G.

Right had a look in the UK420 shop, having read that its sold by the meter, but can't find any. I was thinking maybe a meter of that and then 6 meters of the normal stuff on my exhaust per murrans thread, and 1 meter af accoustic and 1 meter of normal on the inlet.

So anyone know where to buy the stuff by the meter?

Cheers again.

Edit lol.gif just realised that its aCoustic not aCCoustic. That should help my search Duuuuuuuh.

I've heard peeps hang them with bungies, you could build a box around it with egg boxes (lots of eggs though sick.gif )or pond filter foam which is also bumpy to break the sound up. Hope you get a good nights sleep eventualy stoned.gif

I have a 6" RVK and I built a fibre glass padded box around it and although it helped a little the majority of the noise comes from the inlet/outlet and not the air rushing through the fan and bungees are generally used to stop motor/bearing rumble resonating through the joists in the building.

They don't 'arf roar eh? pinch.gif

Acoustic ducting has got to be the way!!

Just me tuppence. wink.gif

try this, some good ideas, I was reading it recently after being given 8 sheets of 100ml accoustic /sound proof insulation for walls and ceilings.

Any diy ideas to reduce noise by fans, diy ducting, other ideas to silence, operation, g

From what I've heard the acoustic ducting you buy in shops isn't really cut out for the job, the insulation they shove in isn't acoustic batting, and while it works, the results arn't neally as good as if you made your own.

Where my ducting goes I've but a box out of mdf to surround it, 150mm ducting so the box is 200mm square. Feed the ducting through the box whilist filling it tightly with acoustic batting. End result is unbeatable, and the cost of the wood, normal ducting, and batting works at round the same as acoustic ducting does in the first place, highly advised.

Hope this helps,
